Children's Literature - Peg Glisson
This entry in the "Weekly Reader Know Your Government" series uses simple language to explain the American Bill of Rights, concentrating on our freedoms of speech, religion, and the press. It also discusses how rights expanded over time through the amendment process and that rights and responsibilities go together for people to be good citizens. Clear color photos and simple captions bordered in red reinforce the text. Words defined in the glossary are in bold type; also included are a brief index and suggested books and web sites for finding out more. The book is short but offers considerable basic information in an understandable way. It would serve young readers first learning about government or older elementary students needing information presented more simply. Reviewer: Peg Glisson
