K. Thomas Oglesby has taken basic truth and combined it with significant research, quotes and the traditional African American Experience to come up with a guide to increase our health, relationships, self image and social responsibilities. The ideas and concepts contained in this book are significant for the growth and maturity of any man, woman, or young adult. The book provides the ideas and successfully encourages the men who read it to bring the ideas into conception. As a Black Woman I have been inspired to examine my present circumstance, become aware of my responsibilities and make changes as a result of this book. Peace and Balance to all who read.
K. Thomas Olgesby has managed to take the veil off of Black Men in our society. He masterfully provides the game plan and challenges the reader to play, but play masterfully. His advice on spirituality and relationships as well as taking ownership of your manhood are words any woman can relate to. I highly reccommend you take the time to read and absorb this book. Read it for the questions you secretly ask, read it for the advice you seek to give, read it for the man or woman you seek to understand. Read it with conviction, and take action.
I have to say, this is the book that is going to set a lot of brothers free from feeling they have to play the unrealistic role society has told them they must play. I read the hardback version of this book last year and thoroughly enjoyed it. I gave a copy to my father, and he did too. But this updated edition is even better. It includes a great deal more information on men staying healthy, dealing with their emotions, staying faithful to their wives or girlfriends, and being a real man in 21st century. The principles in this book are amazing. The author tells it like it is, and he does not hold back. Man, he is a bold brother. (It is not for the faint at heart.) It is well written, and is a got-to-read for black men and women. Even a lot of our young African-American boys growing up today will get a lot out of it (if they will read it). It will help them prepare themselves for true manhood as they reach adulthood. It just needs to get into their hands. This book will change its reader's life. I suggest if you want to change your life, buy it here and read it, because it will make you look honestly at yourself and your life, and will inspire you to change it for the better. Highly recommend it!
