Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
Since we are living things, there are certain things that we need. We need air sunlight, clean water to drink and help us keep clean and cook our food. In regard to food, we should be eating foods from the various food families such as meat, grains, fruits, vegetables, and dairy. Living things and especially animals and people need to move and sometimes this movement is in the form of exercise. To go along with this exercise we also need to known when to stop and rest and get the appropriate amount of sleep. Other basic needs include clothing, shelter, and people who love and take care of us. Unlike many readers of this type, the vocabulary words are listed on the opening page, and the closing page includes several notes to adults about the content and focus of the book and a suggested activity, which is in addition to the related activities presented on prior pages. Simple declarative sentences on crisp white pages accompanied by photographs of children from a variety of ethnic backgrounds make this an attractive book. This is a level "F" book in the "My World" series. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
