Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
The kids in this early reader are looking at a variety of animals. The premise is a bit weak, but the purpose seems to be to introduce a bunch of animals from several different families. The ending is a bit fanciful and seems to be a bit of a disconnect in light of the approach in the balance of the book. Unlike many readers of this type, the vocabulary words are listed on the opening page, and the closing page includes several notes to adults about the content and focus of the book and a suggested activity. Simple declarative sentences on crisp white pages accompanied by photographs of children from a variety of ethnic backgrounds and pictures of wild animals make this an attractive book. It is a level "B" book in the "My World" series. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
