Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Heidi Hauser Green
If your child enjoys looking at books about animals and making animal sounds—and what child doesn't?—he is sure to love this board book! Although just nine double-page spreads in length, this book features cartoon-like, boldly-drawn, friendly-looking animals that will captivate reader attention. Each animal dominates its double-page spread; a few seem to extend beyond the page. The book's story is simple, focusing on morning and building to ultimately include the reader. The sun wakes up the duck that wakes up the rooster that wakes up the cow that wakes up the cat and so on. Even the youngest pre-reader will be thrilled to open each animal's mouth and reveal its sound. The final spread shows all of the animals with their sounds and asks the child: "When you wake up, what do you say?" A good book for parents and caregivers to share with their children, this is also a good selection for beginning readers who want to read to their younger siblings. Reviewer: Heidi Hauser Green
