The characters are animated but realistic. I have not read a coming of age or a coming out story that weaves a comical and poetic story into some of the most important social issues facing the Black GLBT community. <BR/><BR/>"It's a book you will pick up and can't put down!" REALLY!!!! <BR/><BR/>You will empathise with the character's feelings and at the same time the story allows you to question the decisions of the book's main character Kingsley Ross. SHE IS REAL! Many books I've read lately the characters are too street, too hard and unrealistic. <BR/><BR/>What I like the most about this book is that its different. You are introduced to the African American culture in Dallas, Texas. The slang is unique but the places familiar. Everyone has a friend like Tanya and everyone has tied hip hop music to a life experience.<BR/><BR/>The author captures your imagination with homespun characters and southern charm. The writing is true to its chracters - "rough life experiences". This is a new contemporary folklore that makes you feel you are there with the characters - like a movie experiencing every momment.<BR/><BR/>We have a lot of urban fiction but this is one of the few "GOOD OLD FASHION" urban tale that allows Generation X to relive our youth while questioning our future. <BR/><BR/>IT's HOT and SEXY!!!!! GIRLLLL!!! I could not put it down. Several of my friends read it too and loved it. We got the book from link below. It was recemmended by several sites and now I agree with them it was a great book!!!!

Also, I googled the author. She is an author and artist on the rise. The collage drawings in the book are now part of artshows. This is very unique to have an anuthor do their book cover and illistrations.

I read she gives proceeds from her art sales to charity. THAT'S HOT!!!
I'm recommending the book to everyone I know and can't wait to hear more about Kingsley. The poetry in the book is "HOT!" The book is a work of art....

Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.I do not know what is wrong with the other person giving this book a bad rating but to say there are "AMAEUTUR" readers. This book is wonderful to curl up with on a rainy day. There are 12 people in my book club and we all loved it. The book was nominated for a Lambda award for best debut fiction. Some people don't unstand there are different approaches to writing. I CAN'T WAIT FOR HER NEXT BOOK!!!!
To the writer C.D., there are "HATERS" everwhere keep up the GOOD WORK!
I was told to read this book by a co-worker and I WAS HOOKED!!
The storyline is off the chain and makes you think....
LOVED IT!!!! Hope she writes another one soon!
