What Happened When Grandma Died, is an excellent grief book for children.

My dad died in August of 2009, we had young children in our family. A Hospice Nurse highly recommends this book.

    Explaining Death to Children

The pastor of my church read this book to the children after two beloved members of the congregation died. My only objection was that the author should have avoid the words 'that Grandma looks as if she is sleeping.' Some young children may not be able to conceptualize the analogy or comparing death to sleep and may develop a fear of sleeping by associating it with death. I am searching for literature which explains this in depth.

Comforting book that we read over and over

This is the only book out of the pile brought over by the Hospice workers that we read to our children. It is a Christian book and explains the promises that all believers will receive upon death. It basically says that while here on earth, Grandma had a home that she loved, friends and family (relationships) that she loved and a body that began to hurt. Grandma was a Christian so when she died she received a new Heavenly home, a relationship with Jesus and a new body that was free of pain and sickness. The Bible verses that support these promises are mixed into the story. It is very easy to understand but not too childish for even older children or adults. It is a book that gives hope and comfort and we will read it over and over. I believe that people of all ages could benefit from this book. We are donating several copies to local libraries and churches.
