For years, he's been an object of fear, fascination . . . and fantasy. But of all the wicked rumors that shadow the formidable Alexander Moncrieffe, Duke of Falconbridge, the ton knows one thing for certain: only fools dare cross him. And when Ian Eversea does just that, Moncrieffe knows the perfect revenge: he'll seduce Ian's innocent sister, Genevieve—the only Eversea as yet untouched by scandal. First he'll capture her heart . . . and then he'll break it.
But everything about Genevieve is unexpected: the passion simmering beneath her cool control, the sharp wit tempered by gentleness . . . And though Genevieve has heard the whispers about the duke's dark past, and knows she trifles with him at her peril, one incendiary kiss tempts her deeper into a world of extraordinary sensuality. Until Genevieve is faced with a fateful choice . . . is there anything she won't do for a duke?
Ian Eversea breaks one of the most powerful rules amidst the Ton. Everyone knows never to mess with arrogant Duke Alexander Moncrieffe; for if you do you will pay an exorbitant price.
The Duke is outraged when Ian had the audacity to fall in love with Alexander's fiancée. He decides Eversea must pay for this affront. What better way than to seduce the man's innocent sister before ruining and dumping her. However, Moncrieffe learns that the plans of mice and men often go astray when women are involved. Eversea's sister Genevieve has spunk as she dares to enter Moncrieffe's inferno where passion ignites both of them. However, Genevieve must choose between marriage to a man who adores her and a scandalous spinsterhood by selecting the duke she loves who apparently fails to reciprocate her feelings.
The latest Pennyroyal Green historical romance (see Like No Other Lover) is an engaging tale that is more aligned to the sub-genre than the previous seafaring I Kissed an Earl, but contains Julie Anne Long's trademark freshness with an enjoyable gender war. If White's took bets, the arrogant male would slaughter the innocent female; however she defies the odds just like her brother did as love is a powerful stimulus. This is a marvelous tale.

Romance novels are a guilty pleasure, so it's nice to read a well-written one with clever dialogue that improves one's vocabulary.

I am not a fan of historical romance but I loved the byplay between the two main characters. Their relationship developed through good dialog and with humor. A fun, engaging read.

This book is so real it almost seems it must be autobiographical. Gets better each time you read it. Very amusing also, as is typical of this author. Highly recommend.

It's a bit difficult, impossible, actually, to say whether I liked WHAT I DID FOR A DUKE or I KISSED AN EARL the most. Pointless, in fact, since I enjoyed them both so thoroughly that by the time 'The End' came along, I didn't much appreciate being forced to leave their lovely, rose-gilded worlds of forever loves and earth-stopping passions. Which is why romance novels continue to flourish; why women greedily snatch them from store shelves with glorious disregard for the limp state of our economy. None of the Pennyroyal Green Series will disappoint. That I can promise with unreserved certainty.

loved this story, and loved reading it on my Nook, but most of all loved getting it for $0.99. Will positively buy more 99 cent books for my Nook.
Thanks for the bargain and great story.

Intriguing characters, both hiding their true characters because of a painful incident in their pasts, but unable to hide their passion for each other. A real page turner.

I've read tons of historical romances and this one is in my top 5. Gosh the storyline was a breath of fresh air! The characters were so believable I ended up crying after I read it. This is a beautiful story. Yes it can be "wordy" as some put it, but it makes for a greater intimacy between the characters (instead of them jumping into bed at first meeting). I will be reading this again! Its worth every penny! Now I'm off to read the other books in the series.

I read a lot of romance novels and, I have to say, this book has become one of my all time favorites. What makes it great is how Julie Ann Long creates her characters. Moncrieffe and Genevieve just click. They have a chemistry that jumps out of the page and pulls you right in. They're not over the top and the plot isn't ridiculous...it's fun and subtle; the characters are witty, likeable, and...believable. You can see why they fall for each other and, quite frankly, you end up rooting for them. I hope everyone reads this book.

I love the Pennyroyal Green Series. If you like Time Period Romance books, you will love this series. However, I do suggest you read this seies from the start as you learn about the different characters, the two families and their dynamics.
