Overview

The kids in What I Like About Me, are as different as night and day. And, guess what? They love it. Some adore the fact that their braces dazzle and gleam, others feel distinguished when they wear their glasses. This fun-loving book, with a mirror included on the last page, proves to kids that, in a world where fitting in is the norm, being different is what makes us special.

Helping children learn about diversity, while fostering self-esteem, is what this super-sized Teacher Classroom Pack is all about. Teachers can read the rhyming text of the award-winning What I Like About Me! and use the oversized book to focus on differences in nationality, appearnace, food, and more. Inviting children to look in the giant mirror will encourage them to think and talk about what they like best about themselves.

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
The premise of this book is a risky one and does not work. What I like about me is my unruly hair, or my great big feet, or my glasses, or the braces on my teeth. To help the reader adjust to these things that youngsters of the age likely to read this book probably have not even noticed about themselves yet is asking for trouble. The book is large, ten inch by ten inch, and the art is stylistically primitive, featuring large round faces with large red glasses or sparkling silver-banded teeth where appropriate. On the last page there is a large, wrinkly five and one-half-inch round mirror topped by the question, "What is it you like best about you!" Peering into it will allow the young reader to see whether or not he has the dreaded big ears, wild hair, freckles, banded teeth, eyeglasses, or any other flaw he will now have to worry about, and he will pick out these flaws in his friends. 2005, Reader's Digest, Ages 4 to 7.
