Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
"Maybe one day we will not be the enemies you make us out to be. Perhaps one day a little Earth child will sit down to play with a little Martian child, or larva, or whatever they are. But, after a while, guess what happens: the little Martian tries to eat the Earth child. But guess what the Earth child has? A gun. You weren't expecting that, were you? And now the Martian child is running away, as fast as he can. Run, little Martian baby, run!" Jack Handey, the sage of surrealism behind Saturday Night Live's "Deep Thoughts," now adds a contribution to interplanetary communication. We only hope those Martians are listening.

New King of New Yorker Humor Writers

If you loved the 'Deep Thought' books these longer pieces are the same jerk humor with a fuller range of idiocy. Hard to put down. You've got to be pretty smart to be this dumb. Jack Handey always seems to pick just the right word or silly detail to be laugh out loud funny rather than the 'witty amusing' which seems to be the norm these days. If you've read the New Yorker pieces its great to have them all in one place AND there's a lot of funny pieces first published elsewhere I'd not seen before - a real treat.
