Told in the style of the now-antiquated "Choose Your Own Adventure" series, the story allows readers to determine the course of the plot by offering choices at the end of each segment (To go to the cafeteria turn to page 10, to stay alone with Sebastian turn to page 59). Many of the plot choices result in the same outcomes and several end in failure, requesting that readers return to page one and try again. The novel hinges around Haley, her friends, and their romantic and social prospects and problems. The flat characters are archetypes of vapid teens. "At least if her hair proved to be a disaster, she had on a cute outfit." Boldface transitions at the end of each segment attempt to hype the interaction, adding drama where none was effectively conveyed otherwise. The book fails to portray a genuine teen voice, lacks theme, and fosters xenophobia-"Flirting with someone from another culture is one thing. But actually dating a foreigner?" Although the cover may draw in reluctant readers, the story itself has little plot and questionable values.

This book is really good. I like how you get to make the desicions for Hayley and see how they turn out. Sometimes you make a good desicion and sometimes you don't. That is what makes it so interesting.

Before i get a book, I always check out the customer reviews before I get it. I was looking through the site and found this book. It looked good, and I read the reviews. People really seemed to like it. So i thought, its worth a shot to read it. I was wrong. This book lacked much character. The story line got really messed up depending on the decisions. Sometimes i went back to things I've ALREADY read. It was also very short. I was able to finish three different paths within an hour and a half. I was very disappointed in the book and i am not going to get the other ones.

Since when you make decisions, you skip like 40 or 50 pages each time, It goes really fast. I dont recomend this book for strong readers, but if you need a book to read REALLY FAST this is your book.

She is the new girl. After moving across the country she has a new haircut and a chance to start over. The only problem is that there are a ton of decisions to make and each one will affect the way her new high school career turns out. Luckily for her, other people get to make them for her! In this "choose your destiny" book, readers get to make important social decisions for Haley. Each decision changes the ending in some way.
There are a variety of characters that remain the same in each version, but the endings are all different. Should Haley take one of her new friends back to California, or will that spell disaster by mixing her old life with the new one that is going so well for her? Sasha, the soccer star, is suddenly acting strange. Should Haley tell her parents or try to investigate it herself? Along the way there are a variety of gorgeous boys of all types to choose from. Haley will end up with a boyfriend, but is one better for her than another?
On the whole, the book seems to move really quickly and moves from one decision to the next; at others the reader may feel like they missed a step, but it is easy to catch up and is likely a result of multiple ways of ending up in the same place. After reading all of the endings, some are a little more satisfying than others. In my first reading, I made decisions for Haley as I would have made them in my life. That ending ended up being my favorite, but will that be the same for every reader? It's all part of the fun of choosing your own path.

This book was really good..its just kinda confusing because you choose what happens. Instead of reading page by page..at the end of each chapter you have to skip to a different section..i know confusing right?..But its a really good book for teens so i would recomend it

This is a really good book. I went through what I would do first, and I ended up having a really good ending. That's what I liked about it because I made a good choice. It was so good I read it in one sitting!

What if¿ is an intriguing look into the minds of teenage girls around the world. The book mixes second and third person together, allowing the reader to make decisions for the characters, and to read the consequences of their choices. The main character is Haley Miller who has been going to her new school for only a few months. The readers, who get to choose the plot direction in this interactive novel, make his/her first decision, which is vital for Haley¿s personality throughout the book. Will Haley hang out with Coco, the school goddess, or Irene and the other 'artsy people' and punks? From there, the reader can send her on trips to California, parties, Spanish projects, and even try to solve the mystery of the Cafeteria Thefts. No matter which path the reader chooses, they will end up in a wild ride of narratives and choices that will leave the reader anxious to read the book over and over again. Though this book had a good concept, the narratives in between the choices aren't very smooth, and the reader might not understand all that is said, because the choices can lead to the same narrative. Also, readers should be warned that this book contains references to the darker sides of 'teenage popularity' including underage drinking, strip poker, and sexual references.

I had gotten the first one for my sister for her birthday. She thanked me and set it aside. I thought 'We shouldnt waste a book' and I snuck it to my room when she wasnt looking. I couldnt stop reading. I got a pep talk about how its not healthy to read books every spare second. At the same time, everyone was glad of my reading abilities.
