Overview

What if you awoke tomorrow with amnesia-no memory of who you are, what you like and dislike, and so on. Would you be the same person? What if, as in the movie The Matrix, you discovered that everything was a simulation and you were just a programmed component? What if everything you believed was false? Who would you be then?

Eldon Taylor has been researching the power of the mind for more than 25 years. He has repeatedly demonstrated the overt attempts that have been made to control your thinking. While very interesting in theory, most of us do not understand this on a personal level. It is easy to understand the concept of Mind Programming when it is occurring with someone else, but most would deny that they too are victims.

What If? is a very personal book. By using everyday situations and guiding you through numerous thought experiments, Eldon does an excellent job of peeling back the layers and revealing the dissonance in much of your thinking, beliefs, desires, and choices-contradictory beliefs held at the same time with no apparent awareness. Once you have seen your own mind with the filtered lenses removed, it is impossible to remain the same. That is why so many have praised this work as being absolutely life-changing-not just a fascinating read-but a transformational experience!

A Very Personal Look At Yourself - This Book is Mind Blowing!

What If? is an experience in and of itself! By participating in the many thought experiments included in this book, I experienced myself from the inside out--and I was totally amazed and stunned at what I found! Of all the books that I have read in the self-help arena, this one has had the greatest impact. This is a vital book if you are truly interested in beginning the journey of answering the age old question: Who am I? But be warned, this book will challenge you in ways you have not been challenged before. If you are up to the challenge, then you will never look back. This is a MUST READ!

I've read a lot of Dr. Taylor's work, and this is just as good as the others!

"What If" approaches the implications of our everyday experiences on our subconscious on a realistic level. Whereas "Mind Programming" took the approach of putting into view the influence of the media on our perceptions of reality, and subsequently, on our behavior, "What If" is a collection of thought experiments and anecdotes which seek to show you how you actually think; be it through the deconstruction of contexts to reveal what is properly labeled as cognitive dissonance in moral reasoning, or be it simple do-at-home examples of how our perceptions changed dependent on how we are involved in them, "What If" is certainly a read worth the money.

WHEN YOU THINK YOU HAVE IT FIGURED OUT

What if? The Challenge of Self-Realization is a mind-blowing read. I found the book the most challenging of experiences. Each chapter takes you through thought experiments that reveal just how much of what we think we know or believe is not at all our genuine conviction. This is not a book for those who think they have it all figured out and therefore have closed their minds to self-enquiry. It is a book for those who willingly wish to pursue the truth of their being even if that leads them to relinquishing old patterns and beliefs. Highly recommended if you have the courage.

    A Journey to Self Discovering

'What If' By Eldon Taylor, is an interesting book that is a clear and to the point guide for examining your thoughts and consciousness by challenging you to examine other alternatives and scenarios looking at a situation from a different vantage point.

This is a Self-Realization journey where the author suggests a circumstance in each chapter then asks questions inviting the reader to examine their familiar assumptions which may cause them to relinquish old set patterns of belief systems and become aware of contradictory conviction they may be holding on to in their thought process.

I had expected something entirely different when I began to read this book and at first I was afraid I was going to be disappointed but soon saw the value of the process this book offered.

The situations presented in each chapter are interesting and thought provoking. Through each chapter I learned to examine my thoughts and beliefs and was pleasantly surprised one day when I viewed a certain incident and immediately challenged my own thoughts and saw how it was in contradiction to my emotions and reactions to the incident.

This is a journey of discovering to who you really are and change thoughts that have been programmed into you by your culture or through society's standards.

Those that are ready to take a trip to self detection and to learn to do your own thinking will greatly appreciate this book.

What If leaves us hanging a bit

The book What If intrigued me...especially since I use those words as things to stay away from as a general rule (for those of us who deal with anxiety).
I thought the book had some really interesting information, and made some great points. But, it was just a series of teasers. Nothing went to deep or too far. Moving onto the next What If subject. It is a book that does make you think, and I can certainly appreciate that. I would have liked to have seen a little deeper into each thought before it moved on, however. Overall, it's a nice book, but nothing earth shattering.
