Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Wendy M. Smith-D'Arezzo
Haley Miller moves from Marin County, CA, to New Jersey right before the start of her sophomore year in high school. At Highlands Hills high school, Haley encounters the geeks, the Goths, the popular crowd, and the artists. She seems to fit in with a variety of characters and is constantly facing decisions. The reader gets to make the decisions for Haley, moving her through the first few months of the year either as a wild, party girl or a nice girl who always sticks up for her friends. Jumping from section to section can be a little confusing and the characters' actions are not always consistent, but Haley hangs in there. Occasionally the reader will make an ill-advised decision and the authors send her back to the beginning to try again. Being a California girl, Haley utters some judgmental comments about California compared to New Jersey, perhaps as a payback for all the Valley Girl comments from years past. No matter what the reader decides for Haley, the authors do not allow her to get too deeply into trouble, keeping her mostly in the role of a goody two shoes. Although the authors attempt to address a number of teen world problems, they do so in only a superficial manner. In spite of this, it would make a good choice for fans of choose-your-destiny novels.

i love how you can tell the Hayley what to do. The book was good and i cant wait to get the next one! i would not get this book on your nook since you have to change pages all the time and that can get annoying to do so. Instead i would get this book at your libray.

The pages the book tells you to go to doesnt't line up AT ALL on the nook - it could be from 2 pages off to over 100 pages off.

WHAT IF...EVERYONE KNEW YOUR NAME is an interesting idea. It's a lot like those Choose Your Own Adventure books you read as a kid. The story is about Haley, a fairly average fifteen-year-old girl who has just moved to suburban New Jersey and is starting at her first public high school. She starts out average, so that the reader can pretty much choose everything that happens to her as the story goes on.

You make every little decision for her, even the ones that seem really minor, like riding the bus to school or getting a ride from her father. You decide who she wants to be friends with and what crowd she wants to be a part of. You decide everything about her.

While an interesting idea, and fairly well-written, this book isn't for everyone. If you're all about finding out what will happen, this book might not be for you, because you decide what happens. It's a cool concept, though, and a fun read, especially since you can read it more than once, with a different story and outcome. The characters aren't particularly three-dimensional, but I guess they have to be simple enough so that it is believable that they would make any one of the very different choices you choose from. This book is fun, but not a must-read.

Pages are completely off and ruined my experience with a book that was starting to get good. Would love a refund right about now.

So in this series you get to pick any life that's out there for you to grab. You can drink or not. Go out partying or not. And a punch of other stuff. Yeah you could pick the path you normally choose but then you can still go back and do the exact opposite because your not really going to get busted for it. This choose your own destiney is great for just that reason, you can see what would happen if you did such and such.

PROS: I thought this book was fun to read, because of the decision-making. I always chose the decision I thought I would make, and see if I Haley made it to the end. It was fun when it said I had made the wrong choice and told me to go back to page 1, and start over. Lucky for me, and my decision-making skills,=) got me to a happy ending for Haley. But watch out! I read some of the other endings and they were not good ones, so when you read this book, and you want whats best for Hailey, be careful on what page you flip to. CONS: I thought the story line was a little weak. If not for the decision-making, I probably would not have liked this book so much. It was confusing at times, because I think the authors made some of the different paths connect, so they had to make sure that section made sense to both paths. That kind of messed me up because sometimes people liked eachother and now they hate eachother, and some people never talked, and now they are best friends. My overall reaction to this book is fun, yet confusing at times.

However, when I received the book, I was missing about a whole chapter. They were just blank pages. This is one of those books where a chapter could change her whole life you know? Anyway, what I read of it was great. Just wish I could have read all of it the way I wanted to. I think it was because of the seller.
