What in the World is Going On With Biblical Interpretation of the End Times?

First of all, Jeremiah does a good job of tying together some factors I had not previously thought of that help us clue in that these are the end times, especially US dependence on foreign oil, Islam, and terrorism. And without getting to technical, as many end times authors get, he explains these themes in such a way that I felt compelled to keep reading and understood what he was saying. I finished it in about 14 hours. Jeremiah's position (which states the church will be removed from Earth before the "Tribulation Period" begins-read Daniel 7 for more on this) gives him the chance to interpret the current events with insightful but disturbing results. It was an exciting and engaging read, on the point of interpreting current events.

Having said all this, Jeremiah's perspective, called Dispensational, Pretribulation Rapturism appears to stretch the biblical evidence farther than warranted.

For a good definition of these terms, check out my review on my blog paracleteshammer.blogspot.com.

The trouble with this perspective is that it not only does violence to the texts where Christ said we will "have many tribulations," among other key passages on suffering for the sake of the gospel. Also, it seems to disregard the simplicity of other biblical arguments, such as the one that other passages talking about "the trumpet of the Lord" could be talking about the same event. Because of this, Jeremiah and other pretrib works, such as Left Behind, need to be read with a large grain of salt and that we should be ready to suffer more readily than to expect God is going to save us simply because He told believers in Philadelphia (Rev 3:10) that He would save them.

Now, before anyone goes on about how the pretrib position is required in order to take the doctrine of the Immanent Return of Christ seriously, which is a can of worms I will open later, I would respond that Christ can come at anytime he wishes, but then again, my faith is not shaken if the Antichrist appears before this takes place. Moreover, we will not know and have the revelation of the Antichrist before he stands in the temple, etc. The real question we should be asking is "would our faith be shaken if no pretrib rapture occurred, but rather we were faced with tribulations and testing.

One other issue among many that Jeremiah fails to resolve is, when discussing Islam, even though He says Allah and the God of the Bible are not the same God, he fails to offer any solution as to how missionaries, like myself, can resolve this issue and effectively minister to the Muslim people. Because of this, the chapter on Islam felt like a drive-by backhanded treatment of God's love for the Muslim people with no solution for Christians who have a heart for these people.

Finally, his chapter on the Jewish people, as though I were a second-class citizen in the kingdom of God. This is an inherent weakness in many dispensationalist writings, Romans 11:17-24, Galatians 3:28 and Ephesians 2:11-17 We are grafted into Israel's heritage by the Spirit, There is no Jew, Greek, or any other in Christ, and the middle wall of partition and the hostility between the Jew and the non-Jewish believer have been broken down and put to death respectively. Jeremiah and his ilk seem to wish to establish that wall again.

I received this book compliments of Thomas Nelson Publishers for my honest review. Disappointing.

    Right on the money

This book hits the mark. As I read it I can recall things happening in the past and actuallly seeing the fulfillment of the prophecy. This book helps to point out those fulfilled prophecy's. The part concerning how mankind would be drawn to the anti-christ in the tribulation was never more evident than in seeing what happened in this years (2008) Presidential election. It was as if I was witnessing what it is going to be like when that man of evil comes on the scene and all of mankind are drawn to him. This book is truely revealing that we are in the countdown to the last days.

    PA RALLY

I went to Dr. Jeremiah's rally for this book and him and I both agree, we could very well still be living when Jesus Christ returns as King of Kings and Lord of Lords!
God has blessed Dr. Jeremiah with much wisdom and insight. What astonishes me is his ability to accurately see and relate Old Testament and New Testament Prophesies AND bring it all together in today's modern world and current situations.
Amazing!
Come Lord Jesus! Godspeed!

Well worth reading-Wake Up and take note!

I have to confess that I approached the book What In The World Is Going On? By Dr. David Jeremiah with a distinctly skeptical mind set. I was ready to discount it as so much supposed prophetic gibberish. Instead, I found that it was a well considered and thoroughly researched commentary on current events.

Dr. Jeremiah begins with an overview of ancient Biblical prophecies, especially in the book of Daniel, with his visions of empires then existing and those yet to come. Dr. Jeremiah centers his arguments on Israel and what he sees as, a yet fully realized resurgence of the Roman empire. This he takes to be the European Union.

In short, his conclusion is that the world is quickly coming to the end foreseen in the Old Testament, and Revelation. Some of the prophetic clues he maintains that we are, or soon will be witnessing are: Israel once again becoming a nation and beginning to possess the boundaries spoken of in the Old Testament. Oil being found in Israel and thus laying the groundwork for the battle of Armageddon. The aforementioned resurgence of the Roman empire. The rise of Islamic terrorism which focusses our attention on the Middle East and their hatred of Israel. Also the signs in the heavens of crazy weather patterns.

I ended up largely agreeing with Dr. Jeremiah and praying that the Church would take the warnings to heart and be about the business of the Kingdom of God.

    Read this book.

Admittedly, I have never been drawn to the study of "end of times" prophesies. However, I deeply enjoy Christian literature and I've heard many good things about Dr. David Jeremiah. Thus, I decided to give his book a shot.

Being new to biblical prophecies and fairly unfamiliar with much of the Bible- I am a relatively new Christian- what I read took my breath away. Dr. Jeremiah seamlessly ties current events to biblical end times prophecies. I found this book compelling and his points incredibly convincing. While a few other reviews claim that Dr. Jeremiah did not provide enough evidence- biblical and otherwise- upon which to base his claims, I respectfully disagree. (Perhaps I am not well-versed enough to make an argument to the contrary, however.)

In any event, what I found most outstanding about this book is that-regardless of the doom and gloom current events referenced- Dr. Jeremiah does a fantastic job of encouraging Christians (and perhaps even non-Christians). By "keeping the faith"- my words, not his- we will be spared from the undeniable horrors that shake the world.

    Wonderful book on Prophecy

I have just read a wonderful book written by Dr. David Jeremiah, a Pastor in San Diego, California. The title is :What in the world is going on¿ 10 Prophetic clues you cannot afford to ignore. I found the book to be very informative with scripture and dealing with the modern days news of Israel. Starting with telling us about a pivotal day in our human life. May 14, 1948, the day that Israel became known as the State of Israel. While at the same time President Truman in his Oval Office was putting together an announcement to be made, declaring secular Israel was born that day.
Dr. David Jeremiah gives great details in every stage of this book, I felt like I was reading a History book yet , he wrote of things happening now. There were so many scriptures given I felt as if I were in a Bible Study. His love for our Savior Jesus Christ comes through.
So many are writing about Prophetic times getting people all excited about what will happen and not sharing what needs to take place first, Dr. David Jeremiah does. He tells it straight forward what to expect and where to look in the scriptures to back up his writings. It heightens my excitement to read his words and search scriptures side by side. Knowing that our Savior Jesus Christ will be returning soon for his bride and there is so many signs to see. We all need to take this serious and start praying more for those who do not believe. He is returning for His people.

    END TIMES EVENTS

Dr. Jeremiah presents End-Times phophecy based on scripture.
In layman's terms. he presents the relevance of crude oil, Israel, America, the Rapture, the Anti-Christ,Islam, Evil, Armageddon and Christ's Return. Because of the scripture he cites, I find this to be one of the most clarifying books on end time events. A MOTIVATING BOOK! LOOK WHERE WE ARE!

    Alternative Theories Please

I don't question David Jeremiah's sincerity. I do wish he had acknowledged that there are other students of prophecy who put forth other scenarios of the end times. Some of his predicted events, such as the Rapture, are debated by many Christian theologians. For a deeper study of biblical prophecy, read various commentaries and mainstream writers. A read through the Bible itself is the best way to understand end time events.

Great book on 10 Biblical Prophecies

In his book, "What in the World is Going On?", Dr. David Jeremiah walks his readers through 10 Biblical prophecies and how they pertain to what's happening in our world in the 21st century. It's not meant to frighten or alarm, but seemingly written as a tool to empower Christians to be aware of what's happening. Jeremiah discusses such "hot topics" as terrorism, the world's oil supply, Israel, and the Antichrist, among others. This is not a light read, but definitely one worth reading.

    Highly recommended!

I just finished the book What In The World Is Going On? by Dr. David Jeremiah, whom is also a pastor. The book is quite a read! The chapters concentrate on the current issues in our world and the "10 Prophetic Clues You Cannot Afford To Ignore", such as the oil crises, axis of evil, Israel, Russia, Islamic terrorism, America's role, the Anti Christ, Armeggedon, and the return of Jesus and how these events that are connected to the end times.

I do recommend this book if you are concerned about the all the chaos in the world. It will give you some insight and maybe some relief knowing that the plan is in action and you can be saved!

My reaction to this book is that it is absolutely frightening! The modern world is definitely evil and we must protect ourselves and figure out the what we believe to be the truth. And the truth shall set you free!

The author certainly had my attention. I am fascinated with prophecy and how current news relates to the bible, because the bible was written so long ago!!!

While I do recommend this book, it is not the bible and you should always read the bible for God's word.

A Refreshing Update to Some Familiar Information

I recently received the book "What in the World is Going on?- 10 Prophetic Clues you can't Ignore" and this is my review of this book!

I went to Liberty University as well as I grew up in a Baptist Church and school. There is s LOT of information in this book, which takes a new spin on some old information. I was excited about this book because I love listening to Dr. David Jeremiah on christian radio and always feel blessed and challenged when he preaches.

What is going on in our world? Where are we in perspective of Bible Prophecy being fulfilled? What still has to happen? What do today's events mean in a Biblical sense?

This book answers all of those questions and more. Chapter by chapter, Dr. David Jeremiah breaks down many Bible prophecies and shows us what is going on today.

The back of the book says, "Events unfolding in today's world are certainly unsettling, but they need not be confusing or frightening."

And, this book really helps to separate fear and confusion and gives you a better understanding of what God says about what is going on right now in our world.

I love that I recieved this book from booksneeze to review!

What in the World is Going On? by Dr. David Jeremiah - a look at world events with stark candor

"What in the World is Going On?" by Dr. David Jeremiah makes the case that we are living in the Biblically prophesied last days. Providing a scary, no-nonsense commentary on recent world events, this book motivates the reader to shrug-off society's prevailing apathy and evaluate truth vs. falsehood, good vs. evil, and purpose vs. selfish indulgence. Regardless of whether you agree with Jeremiah's conclusions, the reading of this book prompts examination of self and the world we live in.

Strengths: Jeremiah examines world events with stark candor; which is a refreshing change from the prevailing spin of 'I'm OK, you're OK' and 'world peace'. Also, he included much-needed proposals of a Christian response in light of his heavy conclusions.

Weaknesses: The subtitle is easily misleading, 'Ten Prophetic Clues You Cannot Afford to Ignore". Only about half the book addresses 'clues' that could be considered evident: Israel, Oil, The European Union, Islamic Terrorism, and the re-emergence of Russian power. The remaining 'clues' are more speculative and future-looking: the role of America, the Rapture, the Antichrist, Armageddon, and the return of Jesus Christ.

Bottom Line: Paul admonishes Roman believers to 'know the time' and 'awake out of sleep', "for our salvation is nearer than when we first believed" (Rom. 13:11). Dr. Jeremiah urges the same for believers today along with these sentiments: "Our trust has never been in governments, civilizations or cultures", "we have always put our trust in the One who stands above institutions, above history, and even above time itself.", "only He is worthy of our allegiance." (pg. 139)

Note: I received this book free from the publisher through the BookSneeze book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

    WOW!!!!

So... I just got finished reading this amazing book. It is a great book. It really opened my eyes to exactly what this world is coming to. I have never claimed to be a very religious person but this book really got me to thinking. Dr. David Jeremiah is a brilliant man. He is a very straight forward kind of guy. He has made me see that if we as people don't get our stuff together NOW then there will be literally HELL to pay very soon.

A TIMELY BOOK FOR SUCH A TIME LIKE THIS!

Although I have been an avid end-time student and teacher as well, this book builds on my excitement concerning the soon coming of our Lord Jesus Christ! Dr. Jeremiah is an exciting writer and his passion for God is all over the book. This is an amazing and timely book for such a time like this. Many people simply scratch their heads at the unpredictability of events in the world today and this book can offer them the stability that they long for. All in all, it is a book that I believe will win loads of pre-believers to the Lord Jesus Christ! I give this book 4 stars.

    Must read

Two words describe What In The World Is Going On? 10 Prophetic Clues You Cannot Afford to Ignore by David Jeremiah: MUST READ!

If you want to understand Bible prophesy regarding the rapture, the great tribulation and the second coming - if you want to see how current world events make way for the battle the of Armageddon and the Millennium - then read this book.

What In The World Is Going On? identifies the Bible's10 most crucial prophecies and how they relate - in detail - to what is going on in the world today.

Jeremiah uses relevant snippets of world history and thrusts us into the future to demystify eschatology. His practical expounding of the Scriptures reveals how the economic crises, governmental decisions, technological expansion etc. pave the way for the antichrist and a world government. Israel, an essential player, is constantly a central news focus. Islam us rising in strength against her and against the West, but Scripture shows God's plan will not be thwarted.

What In The World Is Going On? is a top read to equip God's people for the future as well as a great tool to help unbelievers come to the truth. I recommend it for pastors and laymen, young and old, men and women . . . Everyone should read this book-if for no other reason than the sheer exhilaration of witnessing our redemption unfold.

I reviewed this book for Thomas Nelson Publishers.

ThisPilgrimLand Review of What in the World is Going One?

Dr. David Jeremiah takes a very close look at the current geo-political workings of the world in his new book What in the World is Going On? 10 Prophetic Clues You Cannot Afford to Ignore. Drawing from ancient end-times prophecies, Jeremiah draws the parallels for readers that are causing watchmen on the wall to rear their heads and sound their voices in warning. This new book uses the Bible the way it is supposed to be used, telling us what has already come and what is to come. As an added bonus, this piece of writing can also be used to debunk any belief in the 2012 Mayan end-times prophecy.

This is a smart book that cuts no corners. Jeremiah's research of current events and past events is thorough and make his position very convincing. Jeremiah cuts no corners and resists what so many supposed prophets of today do by attempting to read the U.S. into Biblical prophecy. Jeremiah points out the error of such and I personally really appreciated his doing so. I did not want to stop reading this book and Jeremiah's writing style is excellent. This book of warning to the world and of hope to Christians is, for lack of a better word, SMART. The best compliment I can bestow on this book is that Dr. David Jeremiah makes no assumptions in What in the World is Going On?

I would recommend that anyone buy and read this book. You will walk away not only smarter but encouraged to cast your hope upon the Lord. Despite the clues that the stage is setting for New World Order and chaos, read this book to find David Jeremiah's reminder "to remain busy doing the work set before us, living in love and serving in ministry, even when the days grow dark."

What in the World is going on? By Dr. David Jeremiah

Most people find the end times prophecies found in the Bible confusing and difficult to understand; sometimes it's hard to figure out how the words written 2000 or more year ago translate into something we can apply today. In this book, Dr. Jeremiah gives concise and informative insight on these prophecies. In each chapter, end times prophecies are discussed and presented in a format and language that is easy to understand and provides great insight.

I found this book to be very interesting and very informative. The way it is written is very easy to understand and almost conversation-like; this may have something to do with the fact that the book is based on a series of sermons Dr. Jeremiah gave. Dr. Jeremiah provides readers with the background information necessary to understand how events and actions occurring today have their roots in Biblical prophecy; it really made me take a look at current events and how they are related to what God promised long ago. One thing I really liked about this book was that Dr. Jeremiah kept emphasizing the fact that, as Christians, we don't need to fear what's coming; rather we should be filled with great hope for the future and our eternity with Christ. I found myself unable to put this book down and read several portions aloud to my husband because I was in awe of what I was reading. I would recommend this book to anyone who would like to know more about the end times prophecies found in the Bible.
