Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
A simple text in declarative sentences describes the major body parts and characteristics of insects. A full color picture on the opposite page depicts the body part or feature and when appropriate, labels are superimposed on the pictures. An extra bonus is the identification of the pictured insect. The concluding pages contain a section with definitions that are more advanced and comprehensive than the text, references to additional books (all fairly recent) and several kid-friendly Internet sites that feature insects. There is a word list that also serves as an index. A good early science book that is part of "The Animal Kingdom" series. 2001, Pebble Books/Capstone Press, $13.25. Ages 5 to 7.
