Editorial Reviews

5MinutesforBooks.com
Throughout this story, Beverly Lewis masterfully weaves in answers to common questions that children ask about God: Can God see me all the time? Does God sleep? Does God change? The illustrations by Pamela Querin are beautiful and engaging as well. The book also contains a scripture at the bottom of each page to reinforce the principles mentioned in the text. Not only is this a fun story to read, but it is one that will help children grow in their understanding of God and His word.
If you are a fan of Beverly Lewis, or you are interested in Christian books for children, What is God Like? is an excellent choice.
Children's Literature - Carlee Hallman
Explaining the attributes of an unseen God to children is a challenge. This book attempts to do just that. The father is going away for a week on business, but he explains to the boy and girl that God is like a loving father and is always with them. Later, while the children play with water in the yard, blow soap bubbles, have a campfire, and finally sleep out under the stars, the older brother tries to remember the things their father has told him about God so that he can tell them to his sister. He tells her that God is love, is everywhere, is all-knowing, is all-powerful, and gives rules to keep them safe and happy. God created everything and is always the same. Bible verses accompany the text. The colorful pictures capture these white children at play in their suburban backyard. They have a pool with a slide, a swing set, and a dog. A note for parents at the end suggests that this book may be a source of "ongoing discussions about our wonderful God." The illustrations enhance the rather heavy text. Parents and teachers may find this book useful in teaching about God. Reviewer: Carlee Hallman
