Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Eric Slay
This is a fantastic resource to teach children about all things weather-related. Everything from the seasons to heat-waves is covered. There are pages about clouds, wind, water, and even instructions for making a thermometer box and writing a weather journal. Nonfiction books like this are an excellent way to for teachers and librarians to introduce the topic of weather to students and get them excited to discuss what they already knew and what they learned. Each page is like a mini-chapter, complete with excellent photographs and captions that add to the experience. Especially helpful is the inclusion of questions on several pages that can trigger discussions. Because the reading level is quite high, this title is recommend for an independent reader in second or third grade. As a read-aloud, a kindergarten or first grade student would be able to follow along and learn with a teacher to assist in comprehension. Reviewer: Eric Slay
