Overview

I am a survivor of horrific physical and mental abuse inflicted on me by the one person in my life that was supposed to love and protect me and teach me right from wrong. I am a fighter because I did not allow my past to dictate my future and I fought for years to successfully overcome the demons left over from my childhood.

I spent my entire life punishing myself for the acts of my mother. I spent years trying desperately to figure out why she was the way she was and what I could have done so wrong to make her hate me so much. My journey to overcome my childhood demons was difficult and painful; but in the end, I realized that my past is what it is and it was up to me to decide my future.

I wrote my first book, Why Me?, in an attempt to open the world's eyes to the abuse I endured as a child. It was my hope that just one person would get something positive and inspirational out of my story and realize that there are many of "us" out there.

I was overwhelmed by the response to my first book; I couldn't believe that so many people got something out of my little story and the emails I got from readers were just amazing. I realized that I needed to tell the rest of my story and show everyone what I endured to finally be able to sit back and say, "It is what it is."

I thank you all for sharing my life with me. I pray for all of you suffering and I love you all.

    Must read

I first read Why me? and looked up Sarah again to seee if there was another book by her and saw this book. I immediately bought it and was amazing on how she was able to get more in depth about her story. I am so amazed about the strength she has, this book is a most read.

    Good

I love Sarahs story. We all have one..a story that is....and its sad that her story speaks for so many. But I am glad she told hers. It is what it is and you make your life what it will be, and she has chosen the right path...breaking the cycle and speaking out.

For all of you ~ please read.

I want to say this for all of the abused kids out there
Get help! Any form or type of help!
A teacher, or a friend to help you through the beatings or sexual ones you go through. you dont truly deserve that.
    You deserve better.
Im a 17 year old female teen and i WAS treated in those ways and i got help. Ever since i was 14... stuff like that happend to me and the worst thing about was my dad did that to me.
I knew i didnt deserve that.
    Neither do you.
God does love you, he does care for you.
It may not seem like that when you pray about it, but he does send you something...people to help you.
Please in all do respect, get help. Its the right thing to do.

    Best book ever

This was the best book, so far, that i have ordered on my nook. The spot for first place is actually a tie between this book, and sarah's other book, Why Me?. If you are reading this comment, i have to recommend this book to you. I myself was never a victim of child abuse. But, in reading this book, my love for my mother and father has deepened greatly. The first time i saw my mother after reading this book, i ran over to her, and gave her the biggest and most memorable hug that ive ever given her. In looking back on that moment, i just know that i will be reminiscing on that moment when i am old and feeble. To say that Sarah's book has changed me would be an astronomical understatement; it has rocked me to my core. If you buy this book (which you should) your life will be changed, dramatically, too. To read these comments and decide not to buy this book is considered by me to be the biggest mistake of anybody's life. You will have missed out on the wisest piece of literature since the teachings of Plato, Socrates, and Confucious. I rate Sarah as an author higher than Ghandi, Martin Luther King Jr., and thomas jefferson combined. This book, along with WHY ME?, are two books that i will never forget. Sarah, dont stop writing. You are still inspirarional to people all across the world, and to stop writing would be a disgrace to those children who have to suffer what you had to live through. You have "taught" me that i have it easy, and that i can do a lot more with my life than whatever it is my dad tells me to do. Sarah, the military may have failed you, but the military is exactly what has helped me get through my "tough times". It has introduced me to people who i found so amazing that i couldnt imagine they had the same childhood you had. To go through years of abuse like that would have killed me long before my 16th birthday. I plan on being a marine for the U.S.A.. my dream that i have had since the age of ten is to fly the V-22 Osprey. i feel sorry that the recruiter you had to meet wasnt the best the army has. I wish he had been nicer to you, and been a little more understanding. Sarah,I wish i had your courage, grace and wisdom. You are not smart, Sarah; you are wiser than the Dalai Llama. And i love you for that. Keep writing. You can change the world forever, and i will be reading along with you every step of the way.
    Signed,
    your faithful follower,
    Peyton Bowles
P.S. i truly hope that you are reading this, Sarah. It really would mean the world to me.

    book

you know, when stuff like this happens, it is very hard to overcome life. it is hard to even believe that your mother would be a persn that would abuse you. if you are a person who gets abuses, then i know what you should do. stick up for yourself. dont act like what your mother does to you is a punishment. and put your past behind you. but dont act like what your mother did to you was ok. show her hat her actions were wrong. hopefully she will change. thank you for reading this comment. now, guess how old i am.

    Why Me

I thought it was a good book but there were many grammer errors and I do not think it was edited very well. The story was good and in the end there was a happy ending for a girl who overcame so much abuse!!

    Not sure what to believe...

If Sarah was being one hundred percent honest she would have taken more time while writing "Why Me?"in order to compile everything into one book. One huge purging of the past versus doing it in installments, as if to say "-oh yeah, and this happened too, and this, oh yeah and mom did this to me too" . There are several reasons why I doubt the truthfulness of this story; how much she claims to remember, especially from such a young age (quoting a person's exact words as said to you when you were in kindergarten leaves plenty of room for embellishment.) She keeps repeating that she doesn't want to play the victim, but sharing her sob story with the world thoroughly accomplishes just that. Also it really makes her no better than her mother(supposedly is) since publishing a memoir containing every dirty detail is a cheaply gotten victory, as well as a disgusting plea for attention. Two stars just because it was entertaining - people love reading twisted shtuff. No wonder they were clamoring for more.

    Strong girl, but...

I am thankful that Sarah has possibly reached others who have lived through the same kind of hell, but this book is poorly written, and her story is very inconsistent. I am not an English major, but the mistakes in this book make this story difficult to read. Also, there were a few parts of her story that seemed fabricated, far-fetched, and very inconsistent; her recounting of horrific events seemed to have a lot of holes. Sorry.

    Thank you.

Sarah...thank you for sharing your story. Anyone that reads this will not be disappointed. This story shows those clueless about these situations that they do indeed exist and are very real situations. You will never fully understand until you have been there, but this story provides hope for those who are suffereing and continue to suffer. I highly recommend this book.

    More of the same...

If you are looking for a well-written heart- wrenching story of abuse and survival, this is NOT the book for you. Sarah has changed her story a bit since the first book, I assume in response to criticism pointing out the inconsistencies in her claims, but the narrative, grammar, and word usage are still atrocious. But I guess with most people reading at a 6th grade level, few will notice.

This is such a good book. I read it in 2 and a half hours. You need to read Why Me first because it takes place before this book. This book is amazing.
