This is a gorgeous hardback book. The photography, typeface, and design eclipse the level found in even many of the glamorous cookbooks (Tartine, Sophie Dahl) out there. It would make a beautiful gift. The recipes are interesting, delicious, and fun. I've made 5 of the easier dishes so far and they have become new favorites. There is a good mix of simple and complicated recipes. There are only a few balanced vegetarian recipes, but many dishes could easily be made vegetarian and still be filling main courses. Most of the dessert recipes are creative twists on old pie and cake standards so lots of sugar and flour. This book is not weight-loss diet friendly but the butter, sugar, and the like are not used excessively, just enough to bring out the flavor.
