Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal - School Library Journal
Gr 3-5Two entries in a series that focuses on some of the world's not-so-well-known creatures. Pout looks at a bottom-dwelling fish found in the Atlantic Ocean; Bustard examines a type of mostly ground-dwelling bird that lives on the grasslands of several continents. The formats are identical. Each title introduces the topics to be covered with a list of questions. The rest of the books answer these questions, which relate to general information about the animal such as appearance, habitat, lifestyle, etc. The simple, clear text is nicely enhanced by full-color photographs that effectively illustrate the subject. Substantial lists for further reading are included. These titles provide good general overviews of creatures that will be unfamiliar to most children, and they give much more information than can be found in a standard encyclopedia article. Good choices for animal-loving browsers looking to expand their horizons and excellent report sources.Arwen Marshall, New York Public Library
