Everyone needs to go to the doctor for checkups. But for a child who doesn't yet understand what staying healthy means and why it's important, a visit to the doctor can be a bewildering experience. We're here to help you answer your child's questions about who doctors are, what they do, and why we go to them for checkups.

Have fun!

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Children's Literature
The author of the well-known book, What to Expect When You're Expecting, has started a series to help children deal with the unknown. Realizing that a trip to the doctor can be very scary for a toddler or preschooler, Murkoff sets out to explain what the young patient will likely experience--checking various body parts, listening to the heart, getting a shot, and being measured. General questions guide each section, followed by a simply worded explanation of the procedure and an activity to help children "practice" for their trip to the doctor. As a way to ease children's fears, a friendly character (Angus the dog) is featured throughout the book to offer words of encouragement. Other books in the series deal with the arrival of a new baby, potty training, and having a babysitter. 2000, HarperFestival, Ages 3 to 6, $7.99. Reviewer: Carol Lynch—Children's Literature
