Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
From the author of What to Expect when You're Expecting comes the natural next step, what your kids should expect as they grow up and experience many firsts such as using the toilet. All parents eventually face the challenging task of potty training their children and this book is here to help their children understand what is going on. It answers several common questions kids might have such as "What's a potty?" and "Where does everything go after it is flushed?" Accompanying illustrations show other kids demonstrating their expertise; there's also a cute dog that appears throughout the book to explain the process. It's a kidfriendly approach that may ease some unknown fears children may have about using the potty. It is part of the "What to Expect Kids" series that currently has 3 other books, covering babysitters, doctor's visits, and mom's new baby. 2000, HarperFestival/Harper Collins, Ages 2 to 5, $7.99. Book written in an age UNappropriate manner

When I first saw this book, I how 'how cute'. However, when I read it to my son, it was a completely different story. He immediately tuned out and wanted another selection. Children who are potty training are anywhere from 18mos to 3+ years. This book is written using language, grammar, and explanations a 7 or 8 year would understand. Explanations are too complicated, lengthy, wordy. Definitely NOT appropriate for toddlers. A poor offering from the authors who are just trying to bank off their 'what to expect' series. There are many other books that are much better age appropriate choices and are more fun to read.
