Weathermen sometimes slip up, as they did in March 1999 when a surprise blizzard brought snow to Washington DC, but there are many ways for them to predict storms accurately. The movement of air from one area to another causes a warm or cold weather front. Because they move fast, cold fronts produce short-lived storms followed by chillier temperatures. Warm fronts change the weather slowly and increase the heat. Meteorologists use thermometers, anemometers, and hygrometers to measure air temperature, wind, and humidity, and a barometer to record air pressure, all of which help them in their forecasting. The data are collected by the National Weather Service, weather maps are created, and information is sent to radio, television, and newspapers to prepare people for storms or sunshine, cold snaps, or heat waves.     Excited to Read

    I bought this book for my five and one half year old Grandson. As soon as he saw the book he was thrilled and couldn't wait to read it. The cover page attracted him immediately. He sat down to read it right away. He is already abel to read independently and only needed help with a few word. He was engrossed from the beginning and was able to finish the book. A short time later he wanted to re-read the book and we did this together. We discussed some of the technical aspects and he spoke about what he had learned. He also loved the part that showed how he could replicate what happens.

    For the weather buff

    This is a very long and detailed book. I purchased this book a bit too early for my child however will hang on to it for future learning - definately follow the age range on this one. If you child is into the details of the weather this book is for you!!!

    Introduction to sciences! Great series!

    These book series are fantastic; kids always ask questions and these book series got the right answer in an easy clear way to understand nature. I wish it would have been available when I was kid!
