A colorful, fun-to-read introduction that explains the ways and
whys of Hindu faith and worship

What You Will See Inside… A new series of illustrated books designed to show children ages 6 and up the Who, What, When, Where, Why, and How of traditional houses of worship, liturgical celebrations, and rituals of different world faiths, empowering young people to respect and understand their own religious traditions—and those of their friends and neighbors.

Visual and vibrant, What You Will See Inside a Hindu Temple features many informative pictures and concise descriptions of what is happening, the objects used, the spiritual leaders and laypeople who have specific roles, and the spiritual intent of the believers.

Ideal for children as well as teachers, parents, librarians, clergy and lay leaders who want to demystify the celebrations and ceremonies of Hinduism throughout the year, as well as encourage understanding and tolerance among different faith traditions.

What You Will See Inside a Hindu Temple will: Satisfy kids’ curiosity about what goes on in a Hindu temple attended by their friends, broadening awareness of other faiths at an important age when opinions and prejudices can first form.

Provide Hindu children with a deeper understanding of the practices of their own religious tradition.

Give children the opportunity to ask questions, making them more active participants.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
For readers curious about other religions and houses of worship (or perhaps interested in more information about their own faith tradition), What You Will See Inside a Hindu Temple by Dr. Mahendra Jani and Dr. Vandana Jani, with photos by Neirah Bhargava and Vijay Dave, offers a detailed and straightforward look at Hinduism as well as a peek inside temples found in Connecticut, New York and New Jersey. Photographs, helpful captions and mini glossaries ease the trip. Copyright 2005 Reed Business Information.
Children's Literature
Read this book! It supplies an excellent opportunity to learn about the Hindu religion and its temple. Well-informed authors present detailed and accurate information. The history, basis for beliefs, education, items used in ceremonies, family times, and small shrines are some of the topics which are thoroughly covered. Many Hindu words are defined throughout the pages. They are shown in italics and are cross-referenced with a helpful pronunciation key at the bottom of the page on which they appear. This book is one from the "What You Will See Inside" series. It helps Hindu children understand the Hindu religion better and also helps others to learn about the religion. Bright, detailed photographs add to the ease of understanding. In a day and age when much is heard about religious diversity, this book is necessary. It is worthy of a place in public and religious libraries as well as various places of worship. Children can enjoy it alone, but would also find adult guidance helpful. 2005, Skylights Paths Publishing, Ages 8 up.

Gr 5-8-This colorful, attractive introduction to Hinduism focuses on worship in the temple although it also covers major scriptures, festivals, and life events. Each spread treats a different aspect of the religion, accompanied by color photos. The information is generally thorough and complete. Without a glossary, however, it is difficult to remember unfamiliar words from page to page. Sue Penney's Hinduism (Heinemann Library, 2000) offers a more comprehensive overview.-Ann W. Moore, Schenectady County Public Library, NY Copyright 2006 Reed Business Information.
