Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal
Gr 9 Up-When she was 14, Miranda lost her virginity to the school's football star, causing her to become the subject of much teasing and even some harassment. At 16, she meets Keith, the boy of her dreams, at a rock concert. She wants things to be different with him, but temptation gets the best of them, and she becomes pregnant. Although the two are in love, Miranda is inclined to have an abortion, while Keith thinks they should have the baby. This novel will appeal to teenage girls because of its romance and drama. It shows that there are consequences to the decision to have sex, but the choices that one has to make about an unwanted pregnancy aren't fully elaborated on; abortion or keeping the baby seem to be the teen's only options. Some readers may not agree with Miranda, yet they will identify with the heavy issues that face teenagers on the verge of adulthood.-Kristen M. What's Happily Ever After, Anyway?

My daughter read What's Happily Ever after, Anyway after checking it out in the library. She read it in a couple of hours and she never reads anything to the end. I picked it up and found the same thing happening. The mother character in the novel is so patient, far more than I'd be in the same situation. The best thing about the book was that it was a great backdrop for talking about sex, love, and all the what if's that come with the choices. Read this book.

    Taylor really 'gets it!'

Have you ever wanted to be in love? The realistic characters and situations will draw the reader into the story quickly. This is a great book for those who want realistic adolescent novels. Yes, it is edgy, but don't let that stop you. Ms. Taylor really 'gets it' when writing for and about young adults. Miranda could be your best friend. Your heart will go out to her as she faces what will probably be the hardest decision in her life. Does the fairy tale ending exist? You'll just have to read the book to find out.

Couldn't put it down until I finished!

Miranda is a girl we all knew or even were at some time in our lives. I strongly suggest this one for the real life drama enthusiast who loves nonstop entertainment. Painfully funny and heart wrenching all at the same time.

    What's Happily Ever After, Anyway?

The characters are realistic. I love the mountain setting. The dialogue is real and fast. Once I started I couldn't put it down.
