He serves on the board of directors of Neptune Orient Shipping Lines and of Agilent Technologies. Formerly, Herbold was executive vice president and chief operating officer of Microsoft Corporation. He is the author of The Fiefdom Syndrome and Seduced by Success. He lives in Seattle and Phoenix.

I first encountered the author of this book via a guest column on a blog that I regularly read. The content and style of the author's post intrigued me and I decided to buy this book. The Leadership principles in this book are excellent guidelines to keeping your life and career on the right track. Robert J. Herbold has a lot of great advice and he shares it very well. His writing style is as clear and bold as his leadership style. This book is not a cookie-cutter book: it is a thinking-book, the type of book you can refer to again and again for advice. It is now on my "Hot Shelf" - where I keep the books that I use all of the time. I highly recommend that you read this book.
