Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Shaped like a lunch box and subtitled "A Scrumptious Scratch and Sniff Smorgasbord," this board book presents the contents of one child's lunch box from Monday through Friday. Written in rhyme, the story offers young readers a glimpse at various lunchtime foods, as well as providing a scratch and sniff experience for each day of the week. Throughout the book, the reader has the opportunity to smell watermelon, apples, cookies, fruit juice, grapes, pudding, oranges and a banana, although the small circles are not always easy to spot and sometimes do not smell like the food represented. Many details are added in the pictures, for example, each day a loving note from Mom, Dad or both is packed with the food. While the textured illustrations are intriguing, the rhyme does not always flow smoothly. 2001, HarperFestival/HarperCollins, $6.95. Ages 2 to 5. Reviewer:Susan Epling

We just purchased it and the "smells" in it are very weak to non-existent. My daughter who has the Christmas Scratch and Sniff book (pretty good on the lasting smell quality)already was disappointed in this one. The lunch box shape with the handle was cute however.
