Interesting characters and an intriguing plot, but I couldn't help but feel preached-at. As well, the Ms. Girdner has some weaknesses as an author. At one point around the 22nd Chapter, the main character and her fiance talk to someone to get some important information. That conversation is almost completely bypassed, showing only an "after" conversation, revealing one fact from the conversation. Later, a vital second fact is discussed in a matter-of-fact manner...but was not revealed until this later point. This was disconcerting, and was emblematic of some minor (but unpleasant) continuity problems throughout the book. The romance was fine, the plot interesting, but the heavy-handed message here overwhelmed the story.
