It doesn't matter if you are a housewife or a working wife; the principles are still the same.

Reviewed by Donna M for Readers Favorite

At first glance a woman might be slighted by this author's portrayal of marriage. I am a Christian wife, and I believe in the divine order, which is God, man, woman, child. However, some may take this author's portrayal of marriage as moving woman back to the stone ages.

In today's modern world, many women have no choice but to work away from home, especially during these hard recessionary times. However, to the author's credit this book is about much more than a woman's submission to her husband. When a Woman Inspires Her Husband is not so much about men ruling the household and marriage, as it is about analyzing the most basic differences between a man and a woman and how we approach and interact with each other.

When a Woman Inspires Her Husband helped me to understand that we as women can be guilty of wanting our husbands to be more womanly-like. This, I felt, was a profound statement and realization. It was also something I, personally, never considered before; but the author is correct, at least in my estimation.

I must admit that I want my husband to remember all the important dates. I also have this expectation that I want him to communicate and respond the way I might respond emotionally to any given situation. If your goal is to inspire your husband, then this book will help you to master a true understanding of men and how we as woman can get our husbands to adore us. It doesn't matter if you are a housewife or a working wife; the principles are still the same. So the old saying rings true in this case: women are from Venus and men are from Mars. When a Woman Inspires her Husband is a transforming read.

    Encouraging Read

When pondering the famous wives of church history, I have often thought that I would rather be a wife like Katie Luther or Sarah Edwards than John Wesley's Mary, but from time to time I need a practical reminder of how to be that kind of wife. Cindi McMenamin's book When a Woman Inspires Her Husband caught my eye, encouraging wives, like me, to live in a way that honors God and affirms their husbands. While McMenamin doesn't draw from the lives of historical figures, she looks beyond her own experience, quoting other authors, such as Gary Thomas and Elyse Fitzpatrick, as well as couples she interviewed. In general, the content was not new, featuring the customary advice to affirm your husband and let him lead, but I had an "aha" moment when reading in the chapter "Understanding His World": A man will gravitate toward the areas of life in which he feels successful. If he is a master at his work, he will spend much time there. If he knows the computer well and can feel successful there, it will occupy much of his time. . . Men want to succeed. So what can we, as wives, do with that information? Let your husband know he is succeeding in the areas that are most important to him and you (page 23). The book's casual style and practical nature make it an easy way to begin or encourage a wife's effort to "inspire her husband."
