When All Is Said and Done

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Johnny Loftus
From Satellite is an L.A.-based five-piece with a hooky, highly marketable sound pitched safely between the Foo Fighters and Fuel. Opener "Hundred Days" crackles at an anthemic mid-tempo highly reminiscent of the 2004 Switchfoot hit "Meant to Live"; both groups' vocalists give resonance to blandly meaningful phrases like "So from this paper heart cut-out the piece you want it all" with the aid of vocal tics and soulful post-grunge growls. From Satellite's When All Is Said and Done alternates slower material like "Hundred" with guitar-heavy rockers "Fair Is Fair"; "Mouth" that shape grunge aggression into something a little less threatening and much more accessible. ...

Hummable melodies are the key on Said and Done, backed by the vague themes of loss, hurt, and bittersweet pride that float through Ian McDonnell's lyrics. This broad sound serves From Satellite well, since its players add flair without damaging the group's populist appeal. To that end, guitarists Armand Tambouris and Ryan Cleary are as comfortable with "Mine"'s heavier chording and rangy solos as they are with the softer touch of "Complicated," which benefits also from the warmth of a keyboard line. Other highlights of the album include the alcoholism rumination "Afterall" and the triumphant chorus of "Just Another Girl," the latter of which feels like a Live-style radio hit. From Satellite is definitely of a piece with its contemporaries. When All Is Said and Done definitely lacks adventurism. But it rectifies that with a tasteful, varied sampling of rousing melody, throaty lead singing, and manicured guitar heroics.
