Sheer happen stance is how I found this author....I was at a church sale and filling a bag for a $1 for someone else. When the person I was with said it wasnt something they had picked up, I read the back and decided why not. Let me tell you I was completly surprized by how much I throughouly enjoyed this book. I found it very difficult to take myself away from is as I was reading it! I have never been the typ of person to read what people have always considered "trashy romance novels", well if this book is what they consider that, then I am a lover of "trashy romance novels"! This book inspired me to investigate the author and I discovered that this was #3 in a series of 6 books, so of course I had to get the rest of the series. I can't say that I enjoyed the last two books as much as I enjoyed the first 4, however...I would recommend them all! I hope you enjoy them as much as I did.

I have read this author for several years, as well as all four books that are part of this series. This book is her best recent work. All of the characters, including the minor background ones, play a part in building up the story. I enjoyed them instead of being bothered and finding them as a distraction and 'filler' for the plot. I highly recommend this book as the best one from the series. It is full of action, romance, and humor. Extra good read!

I love Vampire Tales, especially when one tries to put it in a realistic aspect, like Drake did. I love how the story went from the past in earlier centuries all the way to the present, like a bit of history. I also loved the romance behind it and the creativity. I like how Drake explain how Vampires act, and added some different things that one dont normally hear about vampires, such as they can get close to salt water. I mean, how can i put it into words how great the book was, with a little bit of mystery and suspence to spice it up. And i liked the talk of reincarnation, like how Lucien, who had lost his love centuries back and was a lonely vampire without her, was able to find her again, centuries later through Jade, who looked exactly like her. I immediately fell in love with the heroes among the other characters. I have to say, this is a must read book, its defenitely one of my favorites!

I could not put this book down. I read it in 4 days and made my train ride going to and coming home from work seem like a breif moment (1 1/2 hours). This story has it all, mystery, history, romance, and thriller. I also loved her take on the powers of the vampire and what they can and cannot do.

When Darkness Falls is the best book I've read. It's the only book I've found that relates to everything I am into. Shannon Drake is the best author since Anne Rice. The difference, is she relates things more to real life situations. That makes it easier to understand, as well as more interesting. If I had the chance, I'd love to meet Shannon Drake, and share ideas w/ her, and thank her. She also helps gives me ideas. I like to write as well. Though I am nothing compared to her.

Jade and Lucian are working to defeat Sophia in her plot to be undead again. Many twists and turns. You get to meet friends from the previous book (Maggie and Sean). I was never really one for science fiction romance but this has me hooked. Can't wait till next 1.

Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged. While on tour in Paris, Jade MacGregor is fortunate to have survived the ritualistic carnage. Several people died and only the quick work of a handsome stranger helped Jade survive, albeit lying unconscious in a graveyard. Jade insisted vampires killed her fellow tour group members and the stranger simply vanished.
A year later in New Orleans, Jade reads about a similar bloodbath in New York with one of her Paris survivors dying this time. Jade meets the mysterious stranger, Lucien DeVeau who has come to her hometown to keep her safe from the same group that massacred people in Paris and now New York. She begins to fall in love with Lucien, a creature of the night. He reciprocates, but knows the futility of their relationship even if he survives the war with fellow vampires Darian and Sophia.
WHEN DARKNESS FALLS is a fast-paced, action-packed supernatural romance that will fully satisfy sub-genre fans because most of the charcaters seem real. The humans, including old friends, appear genuine while Lucien is a warm hero who makes vampires seem as a matter of fact. Though the villains are too stereotyped as killing machines, Shannon Drake provides a powerful tale that will send the audience seeking her first tale in this trilogy, BENEATH A BLOOD RED MOON.
Harriet Klausner

Shannon Drake is an amazing author and the books in her 'bloody vampire' series sizzle with romance and action. When Darkness Falls is a perfect second novel to her series of avenging and protecting vampires who destroy with a vengance, others of their kind or the mortals that are always in touble. A fantastic read and a must for others who enjoy Drakes novels.

I absolutely enjoyed this novel. I did not want the story to end and in a way it does not because it is the second in a series. I let fiction and fantasy make this book come alive and really enjoyed it.

I am a huge fan of vampire tales, and I must say, this is by far the best vampire novel I have ever read! It has a lot of action in it, and even romance. No one could be a true vampire fan if they haven't read this!

When Darkness Falls would have to be one of the best books I have ever read! The book was so breathtaking that I had to finish it as soon as I started reading it. I couldn't put it down. The way Shannon Drake explains the world of vampires is truly remarkable!

I purchased this book just because of its relation to vampires, and ended up falling in love with it. I had read other titles by Heather Graham, and loved every minute of them, so I was very pleased when I found out she was Shannon Drake. I fell helplessy in love with Lucian, his life had been so difficult, and yet he became so caring. I don't care what anyone says, this book goes down as one of my favorites.

I couldn't put this book down. And to make it even better, I read it while I was in the French Quarter of New Orleans! How much closer to a story can you get!?! I have to admit, I was a tad disapointed in the ending, I even knida hoped that Jade would become one of them and be Queen of the Vampires. But you can't always get what you wish for I guess. Over all it was an excellent book and if you haven't read it- do so!

Ms Drake wrote a wonderful romance with some very rich and powerful characters. I enjoyed the book for the most part. I was happy to hear that even vampires have rules to live by. I especially liked the attention to detail Ms. Drake puts into her writing. However, I was not happy with the ending of the book. What happened to Jade? Was Lucian 'saved'? I am hoping with the publishing of the third in this trilogy Ms. Drake will wrap it up nicely. I look forward to the next one.

Just finished this book, now I'm on-line ordering the first one in the series! I had no idea it was part of a series, wish I had known it before I read it, as I would have read them in order! This is my first Shannon Drake novel, and I'm hooked! Great vampire novel. Quite different from what I have read before, and I've read a lot of vampire stories! Can't wait for the rest of the series!
