When Every Day Matters, A Mother's Memoir On Love, Loss And Life is a first person narrative which addresses the questions, "Are you feeling hopeless because you have lost someone close to you, particularly a child? Do you need to feel someone else understands your loss? Do you need to find some peace and hope again?" Do you wish family, friends and others would respond differently to your pain?

In this intimate, deeply personal, spiritual and psychological memoir, Mary Jane Hurley Brant, a practicing psychotherapist for 31 years, candidly addresses the loss of her daughter, Katie, who died after battling a brain tumor for 28 years. Mary Jane, who specializes in grief and loss professionally, understands personally the impact that the loss of a beloved child has upon a mother, father and family because she has been there. This book addresses the trauma of loss on the soul and how it unleashes original family of origin wounds and issues within a family system. In this book you will read reflections and gain deep insight and practical suggestions into how to proceed in the aftermath of child loss. You will also learn how to manage your suffering on a day-to-day basis.

We all know that after a devastating loss the journey to recovery is a lonely one. Now you don’t have to walk your path alone. Bravo MJ! Thank you for the amazing courage and strength you possess that allowed and inspired this magnificent book! Fourteen years after my father's passing, with this book, I have finally found a way to understand my own complex feelings of grief as well as those of my mother. M.J.'s heartfelt, raw and touching story of her beautiful daughter's sojourn provides a gateway to understanding unconditional love, loss and the inevitable journey back to life and joy. This book will help you to understand some of your own feelings, thoughts and actions as well as those of others during unfamiliar and unconscionable circumstances. MJ's style is conversational, heartfelt and awash with honesty and pure love. This book is sure to change the world... I know it has already changed mine.

This book is an inspirational account of how a young woman embraced her life and inspired so many around her during ten years of battling cancer. Katie's wisdom and grace provides the reader with a way to consider hardships in one's own life. Likewise, her mother's honest accouting of her grief, family dynamics and psychological insights gives the reader an example of how to navigate challenges in life.

When Everyday Matters: A Mother's Memoir On Love, Loss and Life by M.J.Hurley Brant is a beautifully written, heartbreaking book about the life and death of the author's lovely, intelligent, funny, amazing daughter, Katie. In my work as a psychologist, I deal with difficult issues of all kinds but there is nothing worse than the death of a child. This forthright and loving book will be an invaluable source of comfort and encouragement to anyone dealing with such a tragic loss. It offers insight into how Katie and her wonderful family lived day in and day out, year in and year out waiting for the other shoe to drop but still managing to embrace everyday with joy and hope. At the end of Katie's story, one is left with a desire to manifest the kind of courage with which Katie lived her brave and selfless life. I highly recommend this deeply touching memoir.
