Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
Only old-timers will remember the heyday of Schrafft's, those elegant yet affordable eateries that dotted New York City and the Northeast during the Great Depression and the postwar period. Gone are its cocktail lounges with half-dollar mixed drinks and its tastefully decorated dining areas that featured poached fresh salmon and parsley potatoes for a mere 75 cents. Joan Kanel Slomanson's sumptuously illustrated When Everybody Ate at Schrafft's returns us to an era when dining out was an instant marker of class and a strawberry shortcake dessert seemed like a taste of heaven. Speaking of heaven, this book's recipes will stimulate both nostalgia and appetites.
