What a wonderful inspiration of hope in a time of darkness. A very dear friend gave this book to me after I found out my husband didn't love me anymore and had been having an affair. I came from a very religious background and I felt like the biggest disappoint to my family but reading this book helped me realize that I wasn't alone and that just because this was the card that I had been dealt didn't mean I couldn't draw again. I couldn't put this book down and I highly recommend it! It saved my life!
Many people say life is about choices, but when Christians experience an unwanted divorce, they must accept the consequences of another's choice. Writing under pen names, two women who know the agony of such rejection write with candor and compassion about starting over. 'When He Leaves' is aptly subtitled 'Choosing to Live, Love, and Laugh Again.' As the co-authors tell the heartbreaking details of their separate journeys to divorce, they also share the little steps of hope as they saw God's compassion in their circumstances. Sometimes people hesitate to give books to those who hurt; this is one that should be given, with a heart-felt hug that says, 'I care.'
This book really ministered to me in the same situation they went through. It was refreshing to read something so real and practical and yet be encouraged in the Lord! I would recommend this book as required reading for anyone who is interested in counselling or is going through a divorce situation.
Stunned, depressed & exhausted, I stayed in bed one weekend & read this book. I felt such relief at the understanding & reality these women shared about the disaster in my friendships, faith, & body I was experiencing as a Christian facing divorce. It helped me feel a glimmer of hope in the middle of thick darkness.
