Lots of heartsearching in this complex romance
How quickly can people fall in love? And how will they know real love from force of habit? Tony's believed he loves Angela for years, but hasn't made a commitment. Now, in his time away from her, he's found Samantha. In Stephanie Casher's When Love Isn't Enough, the triangle of relationships becomes ever more tangled. Angela fights for her man. Samantha waits patiently. And friends, on both sides, try to help, though not everyone fights fair.
Stephanie Casher's novel is set in Southern California, with beautiful seascape backdrops, sunsets, sunrises, college parties, drink, drugs, family turmoil, and two beautiful protagonists who share the same "rare ethnic mix-Black and Filipino." Soulmates, friends, cheaters and psycho-analysis all combine to reveal the motivations and pains of two people who long to be together and struggle to wait.
A long novel filled with as much heart-searching as romance, this tale ends with well-chosen questions on soulmates, connections, love and relationships for extended reader discussion.
Disclosure: I read this novel as a judge in the multi-cultural section of the Dan Poynter Global eBook Awards.
