A violent encounter in a deserted parking lot is FBI agent Sam Pierce’s only clue to the menace who is stalking child psychologist Jocelyn Gold. A random event? Or a client’s revenge? When darkness falls, the danger deepens....
A short story. When Night Falls was a sweet story with some good suspense. I read it on my nook (with the font set to "small", and it came in at 37 pages from start to finish, with a few pages of extra information (copyright, disclaimers, etc...)
The plot essentially surrounds Jocelyn, a therapist who is attacked for ruining the assailant's family, and Sam, and FBI agent who has used Jocelyn's help to solve prior investigations. Sam is nearby when Jocelyn is attacked, and from that point forward he becomes invested in finding her attacker. There are some details in the story that seemed unnecessary, particularly surrounding some religious references that seemed to be forced in and not really linked to any purpose. There are also a few holes here and there and things that aren't explained and should be.
Overall, I found the book to be a fun, short read, despite it's shortcomings with the story. With a bit of action/suspense, and a little romance, I think When Night Falls would be a good story to read to pass a little time one afternoon, when you want to read something, but don't want to invest several hours reading a full novel.

It was worth every last dime I didn't pay for it! The story had a great deal of potential. It just needed to be fleshed out. The plot was full of holes, and the the characters held promise, but just weren't developed.

I had already read the reviews and I looked at how many pages it was so I knew it was a short story going into it. I think it could have made a really good novel but it was also a good short read.

This was a good start, but needed to be longer. Although there was a lot of action, the story and characters didn't seem well-developed. I'm not sorry I read this book but it was completely forgettable. The story was intense but the characters and dialogue weren't very interesting.

I thought the characters and suspense were well written. However, I got the distinct impression that there was something missing. They found the suspect too easily. I wouldn't be surprised if this short book was created by deleting large chunks of a full-length novel. Otherwise, good story, though I could have done without the random references to Christianity!

Have not read this book but it looks like several of you seem to be searching for well written books by a christian. In my opinion, Terri BLackstock is the best! Start with her restoration series (4 books) and you will want to read every book she has ever written. Download them free to your Nook from the library.

If you want a very quick read and something a little creepy to keep you on the edge of your set. Read this book. It was a free book!!! So hey no reason to complain lol
But I have not read any books before by Margaret Daley. But I cant wait to read more of her writings.

It just needed to be longer to develop the characters and the plot. The story jumped around to much and left a lot out. It just needed to be longer. All I can say is that I am glad that I did not pay for this book.

Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged. While this short story was an interesting story, it almost seems as if the few "little Christian tidbits" were simply thrown in to make this a "Christian" story targeted for Christians. For me, the story was interesting on its own and did not require the couple of religious insertions to make it "Religiously Correct." It should also be noted the story did not require the use of vulgarities to make the story interesting. It was refreshing to read a story without vulgarity for vulgarity sake. ----- Best wishes, Dave Wile

If this story had been elaborated more, it would have made for an interesting read as a novel. For a stand alone novella, I'm not so sure about the cliff hanger ending. I like books with certainty endings.

It started on page 4 and ended on page 35.
Doctor Jocelyn approached her car that was parked in the last row in a large lot. She didn't remember if the security light of the building being out. She should of waited for Sam they were working on an FBI case with a teenage boy. She clicked her remote to her car. A sweaty hand had clamped over her mouth. She could not breath a knife pressed her neck while a musky odor assailed her nostrils. The knife niche her. She finally remembered her self defense training. She had ran 80 yards, But he had caught her. She had done something to this person's daughter. And this guy said you will pay for destroying his family. Sam Pierce had knocked her attacker. The police had come and also the paramedics. She was worried now about Sam. Sam was okay he was also in the emergency room next to her, She had stayed with two officers they were her friends. They would find her attacker of theirs. Her two friends are police officers for this town she lived in. She was an excellent therapists. She had her practice for 5 years now. Sam was out of the hospital he is just sore as hell. I think Sam was the FBI agent in this novel. Sam and Jocelyn went to the French Quarters they went back to her office and it was demolished and even her computer too. Her attacker deapering. He called the police from his cell phone they waited in the hall. They needed to get this person before her murdered someone. She had saved her files on her flash drive and she went to her apartment to get her laptop. This person had put a picture of her and Sam on her car window shield it was a picture of them from the night before, They had gone to this person house and heard a little girl screamed. Her name was Emma. Emma was trying to call her mother. Her parents were divorced and the mother had her all the time. The court had ordered supervised visits with the father. He has taken Emma without the ex wife;s permission. Jocelyn had to get Emma for Sam. Sam got a piece of Dubois's shoulder. He had lost alot of blood . They were both inches away from the gun. Sam had finally put the hand cuffs on Dubois's arms. I enjoyed this novel very much as you can see buy my review. ShelleyMA
