Editorial Reviews

In the Library Reviews
Although the title is reminiscent of a line from a lullaby, the novel sensitively explores a subject that is anything but soothing. When Jillian Chandler is diagnosed with breast cancer, her storybook marriage to Morgan rocks, but not like a mother gently swaying a baby's crib. Morgan decides to leave his wife in the midst of her greatest battle, while he tries to sort out his own feelings. These pages are a stirring look at this relationship and the far reaching repercussions.
Once Upon A Romance Reviews
When the Vow Breaks was a very pleasant surprise. After the first chapter or two I wondered how I would get through it, it was so sad, but I forged ahead and eventually had a hard time putting it down. This book isn’t about breast cancer and the tragedies that befall Jillian; it’s about weathering the storms, survival and trust in love and in God.
The Romance Studio
This is a great look at not only a breast cancer survivor but also a couple whose commitment to each other through their faith grew stronger. It is an easy read and one I highly recommend.

    History, thrilling, romantic!

Review by Judy: While some of the events of When the Vow Breaks might seem a bit coincidentally contrived, the true romance reader will cheer the characters as they determinedly survive their personal struggles in the midst of World War II's aftermath. Walking through a diagnosis of breast cancer and marital strife, military wife Jillian Chandler confronts her feelings of physical violation and rejection and the need to forgive. Captain Morgan Chandler must finally deal with his past hurts and risk his present happiness to honor his commitment to his country and save a friend.

A taste of history, in events surrounding the Berlin Airlift, and a hint of 'a thriller' combine to make When the Vow Breaks not your 'ordinary' romance. Two additional love stories on the periphery of Jillian's and Morgan's trials are a definite bonus. The well-written story flows smoothly from beginning to end. It's one of those old-fashioned, happily-ever-after stories we don't see much anymore but would like to. Finally, the epilogue satisfactorily ties up most of the loose ends and focuses on the hope that every romance reader holds dear.

Judith Leigh definitely writes for those who believe in the tender endurance of true love.

    I Also Recommend:

A touching love story that will warm everyone's heart.

When the Vow Breaks, is an excellent read. The touching and emotional story of Jillian and Morgan is set in 1948. She is a young woman trying to get pregnant and finds out she has breast cancer. Morgan loves her, but he can't stand to watch her die. Jillian has to fight the disease and save her marriage.
In 1948 there weren't any options for women with breast cancer. The standard treatment was a surgical mastectomy and disfigurement. As a survivor, I could relate to Jillian and even shed a few tears. I felt fortunate to have been offered options.
This is a sweet romance with a message for every woman. I highly recommend it for a cancer survivor and anyone who knows someone who has suffered through the disease. But you don't need to know about cancer to enjoy this story. Judith Leigh spins a romance that takes you to a different time and doesn't let you go until the last page. This story will touch your heart. I'll be looking for more from this author.
