Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Suzanne Javid
Pipkin is a very small, inquisitive penguin who is always asking very big questions. Sometimes he wonders and asks about the sky, the sea, or the weather. In this title, Pipkin wants to know where babies come from. He learns there are many ways babies are born and finds out some babies come from eggs, some are small, some are large and some come from their Mommy's tummy. Some eggs are laid by the Mama and kept warm by the Papa. An engaging story gently presented to very young children. Beautiful, soft watercolor illustrations on twenty-four large, glossy pages and two delightful double-page spreads feature large animal characters such as a whale, seal cubs, baby turtles, and Pipkin's family and friends. An added bonus is a giant poster in an envelope at the back of the book that shows pictures of all kinds of animals with their babies. The poster contains the answer to the question. Animals such as giraffe, kangaroo, horse, lion, elephant, cat, dog, rabbit, bear, and more are charmingly illustrated. A wonderful book that helps to develop print motivation, print awareness, and vocabulary as well as broaden the child's knowledge about the world. This title answers and informs the question of "Where ...?" very satisfactorily for this age level. First published in England in 2012. Applause, Applause. Reviewer: Suzanne Javid
