Overview

Jilted by love in 1834, Cara Lindsay sails from Boston to Mexicos rugged California to begin a new life with a favorite aunt. Heartbroken to learn her aunt has died, she takes a companionship position to the wife of Don Miguel Navarro, the tough and irresistible owner of a major inland rancho. Prior to her arrival, Miguels wife had suffered a permanent brain injury in a suspicious fall, and the lonely rancheros heart opens to Caras kindness and beauty like parched earth to rain. Yet love may break Caras heart again, for she would never be any mans mistress. Until ships sail for Boston months away, shes trapped in the midst of danger and an impossible love. When the bells ring and the eagle cries, will she be the next to die?

About the Author

Writing nudged its way into Dee Ann Palmers life when she composed her first stories at the age of seven. She chose a career path in professional nursing, only realizing she was also a writer after she sent an article out cold to a magazine and they bought and published it.
A member of the Published Author Network of Romance Writers of America (RWA-PAN), this award-winning author is multi-published in fiction and nonfiction. She considers herself a Romance writer, but suspense and murder crop up even in some of those stories, no doubt the result of her affiliation with Sisters in Crime.
Palmer has competed in over a hundred foot races, five of them marathons (26.2 miles). She lives in southern California with her husband and an adored older cat.
