Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Judy Silverman and Marilyn Courtot
This charming book portrays Shabbat as an essential part of our lives, present in everything that we do or say. Shabbat is often referred to as Queen Shabbat, and to a small child, the Queen obviously must have a place to live. The book is similar in tone to Sandy Eisenberg Sasso's Where Does God Live? and probably could be used in the same way. The illustrations show a contemporary and fairly observant family following the rituals associated with Shabbat. The candles and glass of wine fill one page. They dress up and walk to the synagogue, and the closing spread is filled with what appear to be family photographs. The purpose of the board book and others from the publisher is to introduce young children to Jewish life and Jewish holidays. This book is recommended for a limited audience. Reviewer: Judy Silverman and Marilyn Courtot
