Before I open a non-fictional, didactic book I assume that its title gives me a reasonable general sense of what to expect. I found this to be true of Bernice Kohn Hunt's 2006 WHERE SHOULD I LIVE WHEN I RETIRE? A GUIDE TO CONTINUING-CARE COMMUNITIES. ***  The same was true in the unfolding of that title in the book's table of contents. This is a book told about her falsely named Kimberly Hills full-service retirement community in a Philadelphia suburb. Its most useful single feature is Appendix A, a checklist of notes you should take on everything from room size to meal quality to croquet court to swimming pool about the service-till-death retirement communities that you are studying and visiting with an eye to moving in. There is perhaps too much of the much-published author's personal prejudices and quirks in the narrative. But on balance this is a good read. -OOO-

This is a must-have book for anyone looking at options for retirement living, as it covers all the aspects of continuing-care facilities and advises things to look for that you may never have thought of. It¿s a practical, informative guide, written in a lighthearted, readable style. It is also a personal account of the author¿s own search for a CCRC that resonated with me because it addressed so many of the questions, concerns and fears that have been keeping me from moving forward in my retirement decision-making. This guide has laid out a course for me to follow and has given me the impetus to get started. I strongly recommend it!

This book is essential for anyone considering moving into a continuing care retirement community. It saved my husband and me from falling into pitfalls that would have been disastous for us. The book, which is clearly written in an engaging manner, tells everything you'll need to know before making the all-important decision that will last the rest of your life. My husband and I followed the guidelines given in the book and are the happiest we have ever been. Thank you Bernice Hunt for this fabulous book.
