Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Keri Collins Lewis
The land of the wild things awaits those who sail with Max across the ocean after an argument with his mother. With their large heads and winsome expressions, the wild things win the reader's sympathy, though the photographs are not as sharp and crisp as one would expect. Dramatic silhouettes accompany images from the major motion picture on one page of each paperboard spread, and the featured photograph is enlarged on the opposite page in the form of a jigsaw puzzle. Though the concept is adapted from Maurice Sendak's beloved and classic tale, the puzzle book's text seems stilted and flat, as it seeks to condense the entire storyline and high points of the film in seven spreads. In fact, for those who have not seen the movie or read the original, the puzzle book's narrative is hard to follow. More of a toy for fans of the film than a book in its own right; this movie tie-in will challenge parents to keep all of the puzzle pieces together. Not suited for public collections, buyers would be better off investing in Sendak's book rather than this one. Reviewer: Keri Collins Lewis

Any book that keeps my 1st grade grandson interested in a book is a good one. He reads a page & then completes the puzzle. It helped offset the frustration of sounding out new words one page after the other, in addition to offering him a new challenge. Would highly recommend.
