One brown bear sees a yellow bee, so he wanders through the countryside in search of honey. The bee, thinking the bear will eat him, flies away. Two geese see the bear and decide big, juicy berries must be nearby, so they follow him. When two shy mice see the geese, they figure corn, a delicious meal for mice, must be close. So the parade continues—until the bee flies into a nest. Then one hundred busy bees buzz around, scaring the bear, who scares the geese. The geese, of course, scare the tiny mice. After all this confusion, the bear does not find honey, nor do the geese find any berries. The mice do not find any corn. But the bee does find trouble! The author's use of repetitive phrases and animal noises will delight any child who reads this book. It is also a great read-aloud book with its large pictures. Cabaan's illustrations are simple and adorable with blue skies, bright flowers, and a fuzzy bear who will warm any child's heart. 2004 (orig 2002), Tiger Tales/M E Media, Ages 1 to 5.—Debbie West
