There is a reason this is a perennial favorite gift for the grad who already has three copies of Oh, the Places You'll Go. This practical guide has simple recipes, laundry tips, and more basic life skills for youths on their own for the first time, whether they are headed off to further education, the military, or the workforce.

This is one of my favorite gifts to give for high school or college graduations, or wedding showers. My husband had this book when we married (a gift from his mother), and I have used it more times than I can count! I especially like it in the hardback-binder format (as opposed to paperback), because it lies flat on the kitchen counter, garage workbench, or washing machine. Yes, I have used it in all those places! In particular, I love the section on removing stains. The suggestions are specific to each type of stain (grass, lipstick, mustard, etc.), use common household items, and work much better than commercial stain removal products. I recommend this book for anyone who is 'just starting out in the world' up to at least age 40.

My mother gave me this book back in 1985 as I graduated high school. I used it daily as I learned how to live on my own. Not only does it have easy to use recipes, but there is abundant useful advice. I am now purchasing the book for my daughter. This is a fabulous tool to give any teenager!

I bought this book shortly after moving out of home. The tips on Laundry and first aid are the most helpful for me. If I get a stain I can look up how to get it out. If I get sick I can find the best treatment.

This book is great! I got it as a high school graduation present. Even though I know how to cook rather well, I use it at least every other week--for cooking ideas, stain removal ideas, tips for buying mangoes...This book is terrific! I think that every person ought to own this "cookbook" when leaving home.

My Mom gave this to me when I moved out a few years ago. It has very simple recipes that I use all of the time. It's full of tips for people out on their own for the first time. I give it to friends when they move out or as a wedding gift. I highly recommend it!
