In the big pile of laundry? Comical illustrations lend visual humor and add to the fun of this lift-the-flap, laundry-day chase.

Editorial Reviews

From The Critics
It's wash day, and that includes a bath for Stretch, the family dachshund. Alas, the dog is nowhere to be found, as your eager search party will discover while lifting flaps on each spread. But sharp eyes will spy an important detail: The tip of a brown nose or tail peeks out of the laundry basket appearing in each scene. (Ages 2 to 4)

The family dachshund needs a bath in Where's Stretch?: A Lift-the-Flap Book by Karen Pandell, illus. by Jill McElmurry. Thus begins a house-wide search, as Mom, Dad and two bespectacled sisters search behind doors and under a table and bed for their elusive pooch. McElmurry's household seems straight out of the early 20th century, from Mom's bob haircut down to the claw-foot tub and patterned wallpaper. Copyright 2004 Reed Business Information.

The Stretch in the title of this lift-the-flap book, is a brown dachshund. The story opens with his human family working together in the laundry room wondering where he is, just as is tail is disappearing under a pile of clothes and into a laundry basket. The story moves from room to room as the family gathers the laundry together while searching for the missing dog. On each page there is a flap to lift to see if Stretch is behind the door, or outside the back door, or under the bed. On the final page there he is, under the laundry basket. Might be a hit with dachshund lovers. 2004, Candlewick Press, Ages 2 to 5.
