Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Beverley Fahey
Looking for Waldo has been an exercise in concentration and frustration since the publication of the first book. Now, all seven books are bound in this one handy 5.5" x7.5" travel companion. In the early books Waldo is easy to find, leaving the reader plenty of time to search for Waldo lookalikes or other hidden characters and items. In The Land of Waldo where everyone is dressed in the familiar striped shirt and blue pants, finding the elusive Waldo may take days. The Fantastic Journey and Waldo in Hollywood require sharp optics and patience to look through the minutia of detail to locate not only Waldo but Woof's bone, twelve scrolls, lost keys, missing cans of film, and sundry Waldo-Watchers. Each book also has a fold-out page listing hundreds of things to look for to add to the adventure. The illustrations are filled with color, staggering amounts of detail, and tons of fun The small size, and attached elastic bookmark make this ideal to slip into a backpack and pull out for hours of entertainment on a long car ride or airplane trip. The only sounds to be heard will be groans of frustrations and the eurekas of success. A magnifying glass would be helpful in searching for the elusive Waldo. Reviewer: Beverley Fahey

Meet the Author

Martin Handford, the man behind the mind-boggling Waldo books, began his career as a freelance illustrator specializing in drawing crowd scenes. "I can’t tell you how pleased I am that Waldo has taken on a life of his own," he says. "I’d like to inspire children to open their minds to explore subjects more, to be aware of what’s going on around them. I’d like them to see wonder in places that may not have occurred to them." Martin Handford lives in England.
