WHISKEY REBELLION: AN ADDISON HOLMES MYSTERY

My name is Addison Holmes, and I teach history at James Madison High School in Whiskey Bayou, Georgia. You might be under the assumption that my life went to the dogs when my fiancé left me at the altar for the home economics teacher, or when I got notice that my apartment building was going to be condemned, or even when I was desperate enough to strip to my unmentionables to earn some extra cash. The truth is that I'm pretty much used to disasters following me around on a daily basis, but I could have gone without finding my principal dead in the parking lot of a seedy gentlemen's club.

After the initial shock of finding my first dead body, which included throwing back shots of Jack Daniels like it was water, I decided to take stock of my life. I was in a desperate situation and if the school board ever found out I'd been a stripper, even a bad stripper, I'd be jobless as well as fiancé-less and homeless. Fortunately, I had a friend who felt sorry enough for me to give me a job doing some surveillance work at her detective agency. Not to mention the fact that I was now able to stick my nose into other people's business for a good cause, find a murderer, and pick up helpful tips from an incredibly attractive detective.

Come check out my story and be thankful your life is relatively normal.

4 1/2 STAR TOP PICK

I have to say that I absolutely loved this book. This was the first of Ms. Hart's books that I've read and she definitely made a new fan in me now! She added just enough humor in her storyline to make her readers laugh out loud over Addison's antics. If you're looking for a lighthearted read that you'll definitely laugh your way through while turning the pages, then you should consider reading Whiskey Rebellion.

There's a daffy charm to this novel about an accident-prone 28-year-old high school teacher who finds her boyfriend in bed with a buxom colleague on the same afternoon her attempt to earn extra money as a stripper fails to pan out. Addison Holmes dumps her boyfriend, solaces herself with another trip to the Dairy Queen and signs on as an after-work sleuth for best friend Kate McClean, an overworked private. When she's paired up with out-of-town police detective Nick Dempsey, sparks fly.

Meet the Author

Liliana Hart spent five years teaching music in the public education system. She molded America’s youth, busted kids for smoking pot in the restrooms, and broke up illicit affairs behind the stage on a regular basis. (Liliana’s Addison Holmes Mystery Series, about a small town teacher who gets into a whole lot of trouble, is somewhat autobiographical, but she won’t confess to which parts). Liliana began reading romance novels with all her new found free time, and when she ran out of things to read, she decided to write her own novels. The result was a 150,000 word thriller--a dazzling adventure--where the heroine was a thirty-year-old virgin assassin (Yes, you read that right). She couldn’t imagine why people weren’t knocking down her door to read it, but she persevered and began writing a second book. She finally got the hang of things, and eventually learned that losing one’s virginity wasn’t all that romantic after all. All of her books involve some kind of suspense (she just can't help herself), laughter, and a lot of steamy sex. Since the failure of her first attempt, Liliana’s books have won awards such as: The Daphne Du Maurier, The Suzannah, The Linda Howard Award of Excellence, The Maggie, and many others. Her affiliations include Romance Writers of America and Mystery Writers of America. Liliana loves to cook, and is addicted to reading, Internet Boggle, kickboxing, and Bones. She lives in a big, rambling house in Texas with a couple of cats to keep her company. She loves to get emails from readers.

I haven't read a book this funny since the first few Janet Evanovich books. What a treat to find this on the Pubit! shelves. Addison Holmes is a great character and her zany relatives and coworkers add comic relief from the darkness of the murder plot. A definite recommendation to everyone.

If you like Stephanie Plum then you will love Addison Holmes! Plenty of laugh out loud moments, but with enough smarts so the reader can still respect the heroine. Perfect weekend escape read!

I agree with the other reviewers about how funny this book is. I couldn't put it down, and pretty much laughed on every page. Addison Holmes is the girl next door mixed with Lucy Ricardo. I hope there's another book in this series soon.

I have never laughed so much out loud while reading a book! Great read! I enjoyed it from front to back and look forward to reading the rest of the series. Thank you Liliana Hart for making me laugh so hard when I needed it most. Addison and the rest of the characters are true gems.

Book is good but there is a lot of references to sex, I think the book could have toned it down a little. However it is funny with a mystery.

This is the second time reading this book and somehow forgot to leave a review the first time. Love this series. I have since bought all 4 books that are out so far and looking forward to the next one. You just cannot help but laugh out loud reading about Addison and all the trouble she gets into without trying. And than there's Nick our hero, who is perfect for her and tries to head her away from getting herself killed. Now on to reading the next one. JudyE

At first it was tough to get past the similiarities of the "number" books by Janet Evanovich. But, once I did I really enjoyed both 1 & 2. I just pray Addison evolves and doesnt make the same stupid mistakes like Stephanie Plum does over & over again. Can't wait for the next book.

I have read several of Liliana Hart's books so I knew I would enjoy this mystery series. Addison Holmes is a terrific heroine...funny, sincere, and ready to make more of her life. When she meets Nick you just know that the sparks between them are going to ignite. Ms Hart does a wonderful job of mixing their developing romance with a deadly mystery. Needless to say, I need more of Addison and Nick!

This is an amazingly long nook book--over 1000 pages. The heroine, Addison Holmes, is supposedly a high school history teacher who moonlights first--for only several hours--as an exotic dancer, and later as a beginning investigator for a friend with a detective agency. Strange, but perhaps not unexpected things keep happening to her. First of all, her principal whom she sees at the gentlemen's club, is murdered. At one point, blinded by an allergic reaction to cucumber slices on her eyes--she has to enlist the help of her mother. There is at least one sequel to this book--Whiskey Sour. It is perhaps best described as a romantic mystery, set near Savannah, Georgia. I might read the next one, but don't think that I would recommend it to my book group.
