No question about it, I'm hooked on this series. I love the impulsive main character, the diva dog, the quirky small town setting, and the whole hilarious supporting cast. The novel is fast paced and action-packed. I'd really like to see it as a weekly TV series.

I *LOVE* this book. Here's my wish for everybody who loves dogs...and even those who don't: Read this and laugh all the way to your next face-to-face encounter with a canine. Great madcap comedy mixed with mystery!

Whiskey Mattimoe rides again (and helicopters, snowmobiles, ice-skates) in this funny and action-packed sequel to Whiskey on the Rocks, and it's fabulous! This time the smart, sassy realtor (and reluctant guardian, stepmother, and dog-owner) finds herself up a--frozen--creek, when a Winter Jamboree complete with ice-fishing and snowball fights, offer a far more chilling event: murder. Add kidnapping, the return of the ex-con who shot her late husband, the romantic attentions of her first husband and an animal-activist vet . . . plus the antics of the irrepressible afghan, Abra, with her pup Prince Harry, and you can bet Whiskey finds herself in a blizzard of trouble. The resort setting of Magnet Springs, replete with quirky characters from the (seriously) 'magnetic' Chief of Police, to the staff of Mattimoe Realty, and the New Age local entrepreneurs, remain as charming and offbeat as ever--the perfect cast for this great comic mystery. Pull on a parka, pile up the snowballs (and a few dog biscuits), fix yourself a hot toddy--and settle in for a great read. Nina Wright has another winner!

Looking for something to warm you up on a cold winter night? Pick up this book and you'll want to read straight through until sunrise. Whiskey may be embarrassed by the antics of Abra, her inherited Afghan hound, but she goes to great lengths to defend and protect that dog. And that dog is hilarious!!! Whiskey and Abra are really a lot alike, even if Whiskey can't see that. Both are impetuous, headstrong, and bold. The characters in this series are so colorful and funny that you believe they really exist somewhere. I especially like Chester (Whiskey's young neighbor), Jenx (the chief of police with a 'magnetic' temper), Odette (Whiskey's top real estate agent), and Jeb Halloran (Whiskey's very laid back ex-husband). FYI: I think it's good to start with the first book in the series, Whiskey on the Rocks, but I read this one first and then went back and read the first one. In any order, they're lots of fun and good, solid mysteries, too.

A friend loaned me her copy of the first book in this series, and I laughed out loud reading it! The next day I ordered this--the second book in the series. Hilarious and thrilling. Seriously! I like mysteries that keep you turning pages until you lose track of how long you've been reading. If you like Janet Evanovich, trust me, you'll love this.

When I stumbled on the Whiskey Mattimoe series I was delighted. The writer, Nina Wright has got small town life nailed. I enjoyed every page. I have a stressful job. Reading this book was a great bed-time unwind. If you like mysteries, witty dialog, and a good laugh, read this book.

Author Wright sets up to tickle more funny bones in her whimsical sadistical who-dunnit. For readers who can't turn down a second glass, realtor Whiskey brings to the table her suite of Magnet Springs odd-bods. Legacies of her second and dead husband: a real estate office, house, malicious step- daughter with hunk of a boyfriend, high-maintenance Afghan hounds and celebrity neighbor Cassandra and son Chester, have usurped her private life. When town drunk and ex-con Roy Vickers enters it, all Hell breaks loose on a frozen lake where the body of town mayor is found in an ice-fishing shack. Chester disappears during the same ice-fishing Jamboree. Whiskey, who happens to be the boy's baby sitter and Roy's new employer, has set herself up for this hilarious sequel to Whiskey on the Rocks.

'Whiskey Straight Up' is a fascinating and fast paced follow up to 'Whiskey on the Rocks' by Nina Wright. Whiskey and Abra again find and make life interesting in Magnet Springs. It seems that nothing can really go right for Whiskey and her Afghan Hound Abra with Abra so often being the root of the problem, or at least a very interesting addition. Filled with interesting characters and much fun, Whiskey on the Rocks and Whiskey Straight Up are must reads for fans of Janet Evanovich, or anyone who just enjoys a good mystery with lots of twists and turns.

I just finished 'Whiskey Straight Up' and enjoyed every minute of it. Lots of laughs and lots and lots of excitement - a real page turner. I hated to see it end. The twists and turns of the plot along with all of the unique and charming characters make this book a 'must read'. The first book in the series 'Whiskey On The Rocks' was wonderful but, this was even more fun because not only did I get a great story but, I got to re-visit all of my 'friends' in Magnet Springs! Don't miss this series!

I like my mysteries in many forms, and this is one: fast-paced, funny, and full of thrills with characters you care about. Wright writes suspense as well as the next author, and she's great at crafting dialogue that zings.

As a fan of WHISKEY ON THE ROCKS, I was thrilled to get reacquainted with widowed realtor Whiskey Mattimoe and her fascinating, lovable friends. Anyone with a sense of humor and love of quirky characters will enjoy this comic mystery. Check it out.

True confession: I like mysteries and I own an Afghan hound, or rather he owns me, so I was naturally going to fall in love with this series. The second Whiskey Mattimoe book is even funnier than the first. Abra the Affie is back to her old tricks, only now she has puppy Prince Harry as a sidekick. It's winter sports season in Magnet Springs, but the snow and ice don't slow anyone down. Get ready for a mystery that's as fast and fun as a snowmobile race! Author Nina Wright has the scoop on Afghan hounds. Five barks of approval.

If you can see the humor in small-town life or in living with dogs, you¿ll laugh your way through this very smart, funny mystery. Author Nina Wright keeps the pace pounding as heroine Whiskey Mattimoe is propelled from one misadventure to the next, usually in search of her delinquent dog Abra the Afghan hound. Eight-year-old neighbor Chester gets in trouble, too. And musician ex-husband Jeb Halloran is center stage, willing to help Whiskey any way he can, including back into his loving arms.

Expect either a smile or a gasp on almost every page of WHISKEY STRAIGHT UP. This witty mystery races along faster than the snowmobile on the cover. When author Nina Wright wants to deliver suspense or chills, she does so as well as any writer I know. And when she wants to make us laugh, she knows how to do that, too.

Widowed realtor Whiskey is not having a good week in the usually crime free town of Magnet Springs, Michigan. It begins when the man who went to prison for stabbing her late husband is released and asks her for a job as part of his twelve step redemption. Against her better judgment she agrees but when she sees him covered in blood outside an ice shanty on the lake, she begins to regret her decision. P When she enters the hut, she sees the dead body of her nemesis, realtor and mayor Gil Green before he disappears in the water where the ice has cracked. Next, Chester, the eight year old son of a local singing superstar Carina, who Whiskey is watching, disappears and later is believed to be kidnapped. Her dead husband¿s daughter and their twin babies are living with Whisky and Avery is constantly on her case because the babies¿ father is in town and wants to see his children for the first time a situation Whisky supports as she wants to start up a relationship with Nash. When the twins are kidnapped, Whisky personally gets involved in locating them thanks to the willingness of a helicopter pilot. P The tourist town of Magnet Springs is populated with eccentric characters and pets from Whiskey¿s stealing afghan who is a good tracker to her ex-husband Jeb, a semi-successful singer who makes it clear he wants his former wife back. Two kidnappers, two murders and nothing to link them except some out of towners with no apparent motive make the crimes in the area difficult to solve. Nina Wright writes a colorful and delightful cozy that will have the audience in stitches of laughter. P Harriet Klausner

Outrageous human and canine antics juxtaposed with kidnapping, murder, and love (O.K., so maybe it's more like lust) in small-town Michigan make Whiskey Straight Up the perfect sequel to author Nina Wright's Whiskey on the Rocks. I can't wait to read the third book in this series!

After reading Whiskey Straight Up, I realized I'd never written a review for the first book in the series, so I reread it. Guess what? I loved it even more the second time through. Since I cohabitate with an Afghan hound, I can testify that the author gets this breed right. She knows what's funny and maddening about them, and she also writes an exciting, humorous mystery series. Great for dog lovers and anyone who likes lots of plot twists. You'll want to read this in one sitting.

I liked Nina Wright's first humorous mystery a lot, but I LOVE this one. It has laughs on almost every page, plus a fast-paced storyline and memorable characters. My favorite character? Hard to choose just one in this colorful cast. Chester is always a joy to behold, but I also enjoyed getting to know Whiskey's first husband, singer-songwriter Jeb Halloran. Having married a musician myself, I find this guy completely believable. And fun! DEFINITELY read this if you like laughs with your mystery. Or if you like dogs!
