Overview

In her most catastrophic adventure yet, Whiskey Mattimoe proves that even bad examples need love—and a bullet-proof vest—too. Although the recession has chilled the tourist trade in Magnet Springs, Whiskey and Jeb are heating up. Before Whiskey can ruin their on-again romance with self-doubt, Odette lands a huge real estate contract with a wealthy, but philandering, developer. However, to sweeten the deal, Whiskey and Abra must attend the Midwest Afghan Hound Show; not as handler and prize-winning Afghan, but as examples of Worst in Show. Things go well until the shooting starts and before it's over, cars and bodies are riddled with bullet holes. To make matters worse, Abra runs off with the prize winning pooch, and Whiskey comes down with weird flu-like symptoms while unsuccessfully dodging bullets in Amish country. Will Whiskey survive her foray into the world of dog shows, or will the killer make sure she never sees Magnet Springs again?

Meet the Author

An actor turned playwright and novelist, Nina Wright is author of five books in the humorous Whiskey Mattimoe mystery series. She has also published two paranormal novels, HOMEFREE and SENSITIVE. While all her books are for sale on Amazon, WHISKEY ON THE ROCKS is the first to become available at the Kindle store.
With an undergraduate degree in theater and two master's degrees (in English literature and applied linguistics), Nina has taught creative writing, playwriting, speech, drama, English literature, and English as a Second Language to adults and teens.
Born in northwest Ohio, Nina learned from Lake Erie and her patient father how to swim, ice skate, sail, and fish. Her father also encouraged her to laugh and tell stories. Today Nina's favorite place is a beach almost anywhere. She likes to bike and hike, too. Nina's affection for coastal Michigan, central West Virginia, and magical St. Augustine, Florida, is evident in the settings of her novels.
Because she was an actor and playwright before she wrote fiction, Nina learned her craft by studying what works on the stage: revealing truth through dialogue and action. A playwright must instantly draw the audience into the world of the drama and hold them there until the house lights come up at the end.
Nina continues to write plays as well as fiction. Her latest full-length dramedy, ON MY BOYFRIENDS' BICYCLES, is ideally suited to small theatres. Ever seen actors create the illusion of riding bikes on stage?
A storyteller committed to both page and stage, Nina enjoys teaching others to explore their passions and find their voices; she leads customized workshops for writers of all ages. Nina regularly posts on Facebook and Twitter as well as her blogs. She welcomes input from readers.

this series makes me laugh out loud

And this book was no exception. If you have a taste for humorous mysteries, then you will enjoy these books. They move fast and are just plain funny (with memorable characters and crisp dialogue). The author really understands dogs.

    Finest Whiskey Yet!

If you're a fan of the Whiskey Mattimoe series--or if you happen to love dogs, especially sight hounds--you must read this book! I only hope it isn't the last in the series. Whiskey finally gets it together enough to realize that she really loves both her impossible inherited dog and her musician ex-husband, no matter how much grief they both cause her, and then she stands to lose love and have to face life as...dare I say it? SPOILER ALERT!!!! A single mother. Yes! Whiskey with a kid, you ask? It could happen. Like I said, I just hope this isn't the end of the series. This is a very solid mystery and a hilarious one, to boot. Great story. The best Whiskey yet. I heartily recommend it.

    I Also Recommend:

Like the movie "BEST IN SHOW"? Then you'll love this!

One of my fave all-time movies is "Best in Show" because it's hilarious and truthful. Same for WHISKEY WITH A TWIST. My family has shown Afghan hounds since as far back as I can remember. Author Nina Wright nails all the characters, including the four-leggers. Come prepared to laugh out loud!

    I Also Recommend:

    it's all about the dog

and she's a hilariously bad dog. if you don't know the series, you'll catch up fast. get ready to read about abra the afgan hound, a convicted felon on four feet. set mostly at a dog show, the mystery is narrated by whiskey mattimoe, who wouldn't know a pinbrush from a blowdryer. zany humor pulls you in and fast-paced action keeps you turning pages.

I went back and reread this one before starting the newest book

I went back and reread this one before starting the newest book in the series, WHISKEY AND SODA. In this installment, Whiskey concludes that she has a "problem" unrelated to any mystery, something that gives her more in common with Abra than she ever had before. Oh, sure, there are plenty of belly laughs along with a solid puzzle to solve. But I loved the ending because it's bittersweet and leaves you wondering what will happen if ex-husband & current boyfriend Jeb decides he prefers another woman. To find out, read the next book after this one.
