Shaken by her ex’s return, Rachel finds herself turning to the one guy she knows she can trust. Kai is willing to hide his feelings for her, just to have Rachel touch him again. After all, this is only a temporary fling.  Until it becomes something more. But maybe it had been more all along...

Whisper to Me is the third book in Christina Lee's Between Breath's Series.  Each book in the series is a companion novel and can be read as a standalone, while incorporating the characters from the previous novels as well.  I have to say that I have thoroughly enjoyed this series, and I loved Whisper to Me as much as I did All of You, Bennett and Avery's story, which is the first book in the series.   Whisper to Me is Rachel and Kai's story, and OMG, Kai is her sexiest guy yet.  I loved him.  He has that bad boy tattooed rock star thing going on, yet has a whole other side buried underneath that persona that I felt added so much to his appeal as a character.  We met and got to see a little of Rachel in the first two stories, but I really enjoyed getting to know more about her and her story in Whisper to Me.  Rachel and Kai both have secrets and have both run from those secrets in an attempt to forget, doing things to forget the past and its hurts.  Circumstances are set in place that allow these two best friends to once again find themselves together and old feelings are rekindled, while new feelings are explored.  Kai is Rachel's close friend Dakota's brother, and taking their relationship any further than friendship is something that is off limits.  Love always manages to find a way though, no matter how hard you try to deny it.    Not only is Rachel and Kai's story romantic and captivating, it is incredibly sexy with some fan your face moments that are oh so very, very hot.  I love Christina Lee's writing style and her ability to captivate me as a reader, because I definitely did not want to put this book down.  She has managed to create hotties in the series so far that are not only appealing, but also uniquely different, while writing a story that captures your attention and keeps you rooting for the characters while devouring each page.  Whisper to Me is a wonderful addition to this series and if you are a contemporary romance fan, then this is something well worth your time.  I can't wait to see what Christina Lee has in store for us in the next installment in this series.

A Must-Read, for sure! I absolutely love this series! I owe this discovery to Vilma over at Vilma's Book Blog who originally recommended All of You (book 1) on her blog. And of course, the rest of the credit goes to Christina Lee for writing such authentic and original stories that tug at my emotions and make me wish that the stories never have to end. I loved that Rachel and Kai had known each other for years and then became closer during a particularly difficult time in Rachel's life. Years later, they reconnect as roommates during their summer off from college and crazy sparks fly all over the place. Of course, neither is quite confident enough of the other's true feelings to confess how serious this connection is for both of them. Watching their journey towards coupledom was engrossing, and I seriously didn't want their story to end as I read the last line during my lunch break walk yesterday. I did a lot of highlighting and bookmarking in my Nook. I won't post ALL of them, but below are some of my favorites; Ch. 10 Rachel at Pure, her mom's shop: I handed her the top. "This one says, Leap and a net will appear." - I love this expression. I bet it's one that Christina Lee has stamped on a client's jewelry before. :) Ch. 10 Rachel's mom: "That explains why he was so great with you in the hospital. He's a caretaker, that one."  "I always thought that he'd make a great husband someday," she said, lost in thought. "After he was done sowing his wild oats." Ch. 10 Rachel: "Things change. People change. I've learned that lesson, at least." Ch. 10 Rachel's mom: "But some people do get it right the first time," she said, her voice quiet. Filled with regret. She grabbed for my hand and squeezed. "It's just that your father and I didn't. And even still, we did get one thing right. You." - Aaaawww! As a child of divorce, I could totally relate to both Rachel's comment and to her mom's response. Ch. 11 Kai: Because even doing all the normal, everyday things with her felt too perfect, too seamless, too right. She filled up all the quiet places inside of me. Even if I could have only this pure and unconditional part without the other - her heart-stopping kisses and sexy noises - I'd take it. Because if she walked away, severed our ties completely, I might never recover. - Can I please have my own Kai, someone who feels this way about me? I LOVE this boy! Ch. 12 Kai: And somehow, letting her inside had been like a salve to my soul. - Damn, he just has the coolest observations about what Rachel means to him. Did I mention that I LOVE, LOVE this boy?  Ch. 13 Rachel: Maybe contentment in a new marriage - a new relationship - was just a novelty. I remembered how close I felt to Miles at the beginning. We talked incessantly on the phone those first few weeks. We had been a deliriously happy couple, hadn't we? - I have often wondered the same thing as Rachel after coming down from a crush high or an obsession with someone or something that I love. How I can pull such a 180 in feelings is still a mystery to me, maybe because I haven't been obsessed with the right person. Food for thought for sure! Ch. 15 Rachel: My body pitched forward, and I descended onto his sheets. "Wha...what are you doing?" "I'm doing what I do well," Kai said, tugging me nearer. "Taking care of my Turtle." - OMG! I so adore his nickname for her.  Ch.29 Kai: "We better get out of here before I eat you up - right here in public," I said, allowing my gaze to slide down her body. "I'd let the world see how good you taste."  Her breath caught. "Damn, Kai, the way your talk to me."  I kissed her ear. "I thought you liked how I talk to you."  "I do, but" - she spoke into my shoulder - "it...it makes me want to get lost in you...all the time now."  I was too afraid to look at her. Terrified she'd see the potent, visceral emotion in my eyes. I wanted her to get lost in me...forever. - And there they go again making me go all squishy inside! I'll stop now with this last favorite before I end up almost quoting the entire book. Ch. 39 Rachel: My dirty talker was back. And I thrilled to the sound of his voice. I'm so glad that there will be another book in this wonderful Between Breaths series. Promise Me This will be out in October 2014, and it'll be another must-read for me.

4.5/5 stars Oh my. Christina Lee has done it again! I cannot get enough of this series.... or the swoony boys she keeps on creating! I loved Bennett and Kai, but Quinn is still my favorite of the three. (I have a thing for baseball players, okay?!) Don't get me wrong- Kai is dead sexy. I mean.... seriously. His dirty talk is all kinds of HAWT and I don't know how Rachel held out as long as she did. Especially after we delve into their past! Pacing: I felt we had a good pace throughout the book. As I said in my Before You Break review, Christina is the master at sexual tension. I don't know if she's an evil genius or just evil. :) Kai and Rachel definitely have some pent up tension between them. They have always been good friends and Kai was there for her during her most difficult, darkest times. He was there to support, comfort, and love her (even though she had no idea he felt that way!) He is simply one of the best guys ever, but I'll go into that later. Storyline: I am a huge fan of the best friends to lovers trope, as well as the whole dating your best friend's sibling one. Whisper To Me provides us with both! Rachel is part of Ella and Avery's friend group, so we met her in book one, All of You. She wasn't my favorite of the girls, and I actually had a hard time liking her because of the way she treats guys. She is a big player and I'm glad we got to explore the reasons behind this. I really changed my opinion of Rachel and felt for her, considering we had no idea just what she had to deal with and overcome in her past. Rachel is back at home for the summer and is living with her best friend Dakota, who she had grown distant with while she was at school and hopes to remedy that while she's there. She doesn't expect Dakota's brother Kai to be there also, back from Amsterdam. Kai has made a bit of a mess of his life and is trying to sort everything out and find his path. Rachel is forced to confront her past in the form of her ex, Miles and while she's over him, she can't help but wonder why things played out the way they did. She needs closure in order to move forward, because the way she acts at school is not working out for her. Characters: Rachel plays the role of two different people. At school she's emotionally detached and doesn't get involved in relationships, using guys as a means to an end. She's also really feisty and sassy. The last serious relationship she had ended in heartbreak and she has definitely constructed a shield around her heart. Yet, when Kai Nakos waltzes back into her life and starts chipping away at the guarded exterior, there's nothing she can do but hold on for the ride. Rachel is pretty unsure of her feelings toward him for a good part of the book. She's attracted to him, she wants him and thinks about him constantly, but wonders if he feels the same towards her. Both Kai and Rachel don't lay their hearts on the line and expose their true feelings to one another. Instead, it's a lot of wondering and what-ifs between them. Rachel is leaving for school again at the end of the summer and Kai knows she has the power to destroy his heart. But at what point do you just say screw it and go all in? Kai. He is such a great guy. Really and truly. He may seem like a glorified bad boy, but he has such a tender, nurturing heart. I also like that he isn't perfect. He's made mistakes. He is trying to find his direction in life, while still staying true to his passion- music. He has always cared for Rachel, but really began to fall for her after her accident and has been a goner ever since. He knows he should stay away because he wants her to want him and want to be with him. He doesn't want to be another of the guys she's been with and used. I respect him for that and it upped the tension between them tenfold! We also get to check in with Avery, Bennett, Ella, Quinn and see how the happy couples are doing. Rachel has never confided in her friends about her accident. She never wanted to be treated differently or with pity so she kept her past hidden from them. Her past and present will collide and she'll be forced to tell them the truth about what happened. Thankfully, they are good friends (name-calling aside) and will back each other no matter what. We also got our first peek at Nate and Jessie, and I am excited to read their story. Final Thoughts: I really enjoyed seeing Kai and Rachel's relationship develop into something more. Kai has been harboring feelings for her for a long time, so I loved seeing him get the girl he's always wanted. I'm glad Rachel was able to find solace in Kai- she calls him her anchor and she could always count on him to be her support. Christina has such an engaging writing style and as always I can't wait to read what's next from her!

5 stars - The guys Christina Lee comes up with just leave me a puddle of goo - sigh I read Before You Break and Whisper To Me back-to-back and I learned something about Christian Lee. Her guys are incredibly sensual. They love to touch, to lick and to kiss. They love to bring pleasure to those they care about. They are so sexy and I was a puddle of goo reading about them. Kai. Gorgeous and sexy Kai. He fell for Rachel when he spend so much time with her during her recovery. He whispered to her but she doesn't remember that. She thinks he's still a player and that he could never feel that way about her. But he does. He's just too afraid of losing her to tell her. So the games begin. The sexy, yummy games. It's all cool and their just friends, sure...right. They are so much more. If only they could figure out how to tell each other. And let me just say that that was the stress of this book. Yes, I was stressed. Stressed that they wouldn't risk telling the other. Stressed that they would try to just be friends. Stressed that what everyone else could see clearly, they wouldn't figure out. And you know what, it takes a talented storyteller to do that to me. I was very impressed with Christina Lee's ability to have me glued to the page. I read it almost straight through, never wanting to put it down. All I could think about was how they would steal time together again or who might slip and reveal their true feeling to the other. Then I was guessing if one of them would decide to risk it. I thought so much about these characters. I loved every minute of this book. It was nice seeing the other couples from the first two books. I enjoyed the update on them. I'm hoping to get some of that in book four with Kai and Rach because I wanted more at the end. I wanted to just watch them hold each other, kissing and touching. That's something that Christina Lee is so good at - the kissing, touching and licking. So hot and so much fun to read. Love the sexy reads with a yummy, dirty talking guy? Then this one is for you. No need to read the first two, though I loved them so much too.

3.5 Stars  Reviewed by Guest Reviewer Jessica  & posted at Under the Covers Book Blog Rachel and Kai have been friends since childhood and when Rachel gets into a life threatening motorcycle accident, Kai is there for her every step of the way. Their friendship grew into a strong bond that could never be understood. But like manyfriendships, they drifted apart and ventured into adulthood, withRachel going to college and Kai in Amsterdam pursuing his love for music, keeping in touch became too much to handle. Now after three years Rachel and Kai come back home for summer break and pick up where they left off. But things turn differentafter years of not seeing each other and they soon can’t help butfight the confusing feelings that seem to take over their hearts and the lustful desires that take over their bodies. Rachel and Kai have amazing chemistry. It’s the typical best friend type love turned passionate with need and desire for the one who knows you best. It’s text book boy/girl relationshipgone wrong….or in this case, right. The sexual tension and passion Kai and Rachel have for one another is highly addictive. Their relationship was written as a real relationship would be in this specific situation; thoughts and pride getting in the way of what truly matters, their sexual attraction clouding up their judgment and the way they lean on each other for support. Not to mention the constant over analyzing of life and love while still trying to grow accustom to adulthood. Ah to be young again! Oh and Kai, whew! Let me see, how can I put this into plain terms? Kai is delicious! He is sexy and seductive and talented and he talks dirty. Kai’s a dirty boy who likes dirty things and I think that I want to meet this fictional character and make him real so I can have him waiting for me every night. Is that too much to ask for? I think not! So, if you are in the mood for Young Adult drama with hot adult lovin’ you just might be looking at the right book for you. And while you’re there, send my love to Kai. *wink* Whisper to me is the third installment in the Between Breaths Series. Lee does a great job at laying out every single confusing thought that these two young adults feel, as well as every single lustful sensation coursing through their veins. Talk about sexual tension at its highest! But don’t you worry your pretty little heads my friends, because unlike the Young Adult genre, New Adult will give you what you’ve been craving for after pages of hot make out sessions……….sex! Lee gives you all the over the sweater, steamy make out sessions with the happy ending you crave for! *ARC provided by publisher

An emotional, sweet, and wonderful read, Whisper to Me was a fantastic New Adult Romance. I really liked this book. It was a lovely additional to a brilliant series. Rachel was a lovely heroine. She went through a lot after a motorcycle accident, and she came out stronger than before. She was determined not to let that part of her life keep her down. I really liked her. She was a great character. Kai was wonderful as well. He was a character who wasn't quite sure of himself. For one, he was confused about what he wanted to do with is future. For another, despite being extremely attractive, he didn't believe that he had something more to offer a girl. Those insecurities made him even sweeter and made him more sympathetic. But, he was also very loyal and protective of his loved ones and, once he set his mind to something, very determined. I thought he was adorable. The romance was good. On one hand, Rachel and Kai were great together. They had loved each other for a while and they were just a perfect match. Not to mention the sizzling chemistry between them. But, it was so frustrating how they took so long to admit their feelings (to themselves and each other) and even longer to finally decide to make it official. It just got really frustrating, because everyone else saw it, but they couldn't admit it. But, overall, I thought they were a lovely couple. The plot was well paced and I was kept interested the entire way through. There were a few secrets in store, hiding in the characters' pasts and they added a nice element of unpredictability. I really enjoyed the story and the ending was lovely. Whisper to Me was a fantastic New Adult romance. I really liked this wonderful book. From the deep emotions, to the surprising secrets, this book was lovely. Romance lovers, this is a book you won't want to miss. *I received a complimentary copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review

Whisper to Me is Rachel and Kai’s story. I’ve told you I love friends to lovers stories, right? I do. So much. And Rachel and Kai just might be one of my new favorite bookish couples. They’re complicated, but perfect together.  Rachel was in a horrible motorcycle accident three years ago. Her boyfriend was driving during the accident. While she was dealing with the after effects of brain surgery and going through physical therapy, he left her. It broke her. Since then, she’s been all about the meaningless hookups to get her mind off of the past. She uses guy after guy to forget and numb the pain. She’s back in her hometown for the summer and Kai, her best friend’s brother and the object of her crush for many, many years is back too. She’s never quite forgiven him for abandoning her to go intern in Amsterdam, but she can’t help but feel a pull to him.  Kai is a super swoony book boyfriend for sure. He’s a sexy and tattooed musician with pierced nipples (and that’s not all!) and a reputation for being a major player, but there was so, so much more to him than that. He was a total sweetheart. Learning about how he had been there for Rachel after the accident she was in years ago made me melt and he won my heart immediately. Oh, and the dirty talk? Holy crap. I was left blushing and fanning myself more than once.  The chemistry between Rachel and Kai was undeniable. From the first night they lay eyes on each other and realize their normally friendly feelings have shifted into something more, I was as hooked on them as they were on each other. When Kai helps Rachel work out her emotions about Miles and tells her to find him the next time she needs to escape, I swooned… and blushed a little. Because I had the luxury of being in both Rachel and Kai’s heads, I knew there was always more to them and their feelings for each other than lust, but I enjoyed watching them figure it out each others feelings for themselves. It was a bit of a bumpy ride, but it was one I was happy to be on with them. And the added bonus of updates from Avery and Bennett (!!!) and Ella and Quinn made it even better.  I have so much love for this series. Each of the books has been sweet and super sexy with unforgettable characters and a story that’s just a little more than just a romance. Each of the books has dipped into tough subjects and done so in a way that was relatable and easy to understand. Whisper to Me was no exception. Part second chance story, part friendship to love, It had plenty of feels and emotions, but without being overwhelming or too angsty. I can’t wait to see which character the next book in the series, Promise Me This, follows.  I received a copy of this book from the publisher, via NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review.

This was a wonderful, coming of age and into their own, hot and heartwarming book that made me so freaking happy!!! Christina Lee knocked it out of the park with her third book in the Between Breaths series. I found both Kai and Rachel so very relatable in different ways. They were really great, well written characters filled with so much depth and vulnerability, I was immediately pulled into their stories. I kept rooting for Kai and Rachel on their personal journeys as well as them coming together. Such wonderful yet slightly lost souls finding their way and I had this sincere feeling of happiness with how it all played out. Great build, tension, angst, and longing throughout.  Kai and Rachel together, after being friends for so long, it was more than chemistry or a pull, it was a this incredibly strong bond. That foundation led us through an awesome story of emotion, fun, and some seriously HOT times. I mean really, the schmexy was WOW! By 15% I was thinking holymotherofhot... fans self... cold shower. Kai’s journey really got to me… talk about growth! There’s a moment at the end with his parents – gah! I really liked Kia but but by the end I loved him. I loved how strong Rachel became with working out her past issues. We see Rachel's college friend and I about flipped with the Avery and Bennett element that came into play. Yay to that! I like all the secondary characters and would like to see what happens with Dakota and Shane (totally saw that coming!) or even with Nick. This was just a fantastic story. There were a few angsty moments throughout as well as some emotional times. I got teary eyed several times and the ending, I might have been a mess because it was just so fantastic with an awwww! heart filled moment! Loved it all! No one at school knows that she’d had her heart ripped to shreds by her high school sweetheart, who’d driven them both off the side of the road on a borrowed motorcycle, and then abandoned her. No one knows the real Rachel Mattson—except one person… Ever since he helped nurse his sister’s feisty best friend back to health, pierced bass player Kai Nakos has been head over heels in love. Kai is willing to hide his feelings for her, just to have Rachel touch him again. After all, this is only a temporary fling. Until it becomes something more. But maybe it had been more all along. My Thoughts From the first time I read the book synopsis this one called to me, the intensity and the sheer thought of finding ones self in Rachel’s circumstances was a strong hook that I wanted to explore to see how things had turned out for her following her recovery. The very deep feelings that both Kai and Rachel have for each other are apparent to everyone but them from the get go, as they allow themselves to explore their combustible attraction to each other those feelings only grow until they become all consuming. A friends to lovers story that is based on mutual need and yet also has a very solid background in mutual affection and caring, a very compellingly honest look at two people who are trying so hard to come to grips with life and finding it a very bumpy road to overcome mistakes made in their past. Not having read the first two previous books in the series that were the stories for Rachel’s college friends Avery and Ella it still does not feel like I missed out on anything as this was focused on telling about how Rachel overcame her past and the present situation where she and Kai are finally acting on the chemistry between them.  The author used dual POV throughout the book which really helped to establish a better connection with both Kai and Rachel’s characters as well as showing how each of them worked out their confusion internally as they became more involved with each other. Book 3 of series but it never felt like I missed anything as this was all about Rachel and the pages flew as I devoured her passionate tale! I loved the fact that this had a complete resolution even though there are more books to come, the fact that the ending was solid really helped it to stand on it’s own without relying on reading the rest of the series.     I wanted to read this one because I have enjoyed the characters and romance in the other companion novels, and I liked the sound of this and figured why not.      I like the characters of Kai and Rachel. I find out a lot more about Rachel and discover (not surprisingly) that she has gone through a lot more than I would ever have imagined, and is put in a weird situation coming back home. She feels like the other people from her high school just view her as "that" kid, the one who was in the wreck and in the hospital. Weak, sick, not around a lot. But Rachel has grown up a lot and she is stronger than they'd ever imagine. Kai and Rachel were childhood friends because Rachel's best friend Dakota is Kai's sister. They have that history together, getting in trouble, him by her side through physical therapy and recovery, knowing her broken heart when Miles, the kid who was her boyfriend and in the wreck with her, broke up with her while she was recovering. So, he knows her inside and out, and we find out, he's been attracted to her for some time.     So when Rachel is home helping her mom for the summer, and crashes at Dakota's, guess who else is back from abroad (we find out he's been in some trouble, hello bad boy with the soft spot, I love you), and staying in the same apartment. Yep, Kai. I loved getting his perspective and see how he is trying to get his life together, and figure out how he can do what he loves, music, and still make a living instead of getting in trouble and puttering around like he has for a while. He knows that a lot is at stake and all eyes are on him and watching and he fears hoping that he'll fail and fall again.      I loved their chemistry. Kai knows how Rachel has dealt with stress--random hook ups, but he can't stand to see that. So, after coming home with her after a confrontation with Miles, they end up getting a little physical and he makes the offer to help her out instead of her finding random guys. Wow, turn up the heat and watch me swoon.      But, I love that the issue is brought up that they don't want to ruin the years invested in their strong friendship and bond, but both were too eager, not thinking enough and so attracted to each other, that they just acted and saw how everything would settle. The friends to lovers is something that I love to read about and I think that she did it well here.      There was so much tension, and really so much at stake, or so they thought when their feelings were deeper than what they thought the others' was. But it all came together beautifully, even if they had some hard things to face before it got there for them. They had some roadblocks and personal issues to deal with on both sides before they could really give things a shot.       I did like the aspect of friendship in these books outside of the smoking romance. How Avery, and Rachel are with one another, and Rachel and Dakota's friendship has been there forever. I like that they aren't perfect, and that although the lies caught up with her, that she was finally open with her two sets of friends from two different parts of herself. The forgiveness and acceptance was wonderful there, and the secondary characters, previously or maybe one day main characters that keep these stories going and you know there is more going on adds a whole other layer to the plot.       The family relationships in this one are great to read about as well. Rachel is home to help her mom with her business and we get a glimpse of how supportive, loving and concerned her mom is for her and how Rachel loves her back and respects her. As far as Kai, we get the whole big brother protector even though he's messed up, and the shaky dynamics between him and his father. I know that Kai didn't want to be a disappointment, and as a parent I know that had to be hard to watch your kid make bad decisions and life choices that you wouldn't have made for them. But I do like how they are there for him at the end of the day and help him the best they can.       The ending is amazing, and I love how everything falls into place. The culmination of their hot make out sessions leading to more, the tension, and the love that built for years between them all managed to work itself out and give them a HEA as well as hints at what their bright futures will look like together.      Bottom Line: Steamy book about friends turned into lovers.
